If it dont lock up then it may be fine, but tbh for piece of mind id still get the head off lol.
If it dont lock up then crank it, if your mate has a compression tester get that on there, saves you any hassle. Just dont try and start it untill your sure.

I completely agree with the above, I have friends that say theres always something wrong with your car!....yer, well, life would be boring if i always got to places without anything happening! they don't understand us enthusiasts, they don't even understand the fun of working on cars, I found it amusing when the bolt on my gear linkage fell off and i had to drive along in 4th gear....they didn't! pffft
