Benn's on going build

Been very lazy over crimbo, should have got alot more done but i have. So...
Got a corsa b wiper set up, and found its about 4mm to short to fit direct. So looking at others that can be a directer fit. Plans afoot.
So with no real wiper motor plan, i've welded over the holes..lol After using my welder and finding i was blowing holes i set out to practice a bit of some nice thin stuff first..

Welded up the motor hole..

Then the bolt ones and wiring hole. With a bit of weld thru primer to keep stuff at bay.

Then on to the main bit. Got a plate cut... *Welded it in was happy pulled it off and trimmed it you'll see in some pics*

Had to bend the top edge to fit the shape better.

Now this is where i've been having alot of probs, i've been finding that i can put a track on the plate, but it wont stick to the firewall..:confused: so ive been tracking it on then its moved or fallen off whilest i've been getting ready for the next track, which has been pissing me off which is why i've left it fot a while. So played with the setting abit more and turned the power up to get better penetration,

Tack looks better, and you can see where i trimmed the plate down by the old tacks.

Ground every thing off. Then had to do a bit of hammer work to get it abit more stright.

Just about happy i put a rough coat of black fiber glass over it..

Now finding out i'm out of 80grit i cant carry on till tomorrow after ive radied the bodyshop..
And its so cold out side, had the garage door closed and was still close. Washed my work van.. Had to wash the ice off half way thru.

More tomorrow.

what you've done isn't load bearing, so the amount of weld thats on there shouldn't be a problem anyway.

good work for giving it a bash yourself :thumb:

I Also found out about the corsa wiper motor :s im going to be cutting it and welding :P

Benn, were you asleep when you welded that!lol id check you have gas in your bottle and that the wire reel is not contaminated with a fine layer of rust if its been sat around in your garage on the welding machine!

Been welding for ages, but allways at the bodyshop with a 3grand welder.. That thing can weld anything and everything, mine.. I cant get any of the settings right.

Cheeky! As said been welding cars(mot patch welding) at the bodyshop for about 5years, but thats on and off and havent done it in all most a year..
I did look at that, i'd just like a std fit one, cause then if it brakes i can just get another one.

Gas is new, as is the wire. But i've never used this welder before and theres alot of setting that i have no clue about..lol

What welder is it? What gas are you using?

Clarks 90 i think, with c02 again i think.
