Just checked its a c20/argon mix.
I work in a motor factors.
Supposedly the best mix for general purpose... could be running out and not pushing enough pressure through?Quote:

i was always told that to tell if its set up right is to listen for the sound of bacon frying.. that was 4years ago.. and i still see lorry trailers i built drivin about
Gas is new and you can hear it comming out.
I've turned the speed up to get a better beading/weld. Turn it down and it just wants to splatter it. Think the welder might just be sh*te.
Can weld fine with anything else..
Update time.
Been driving and enjoying the Nova.. But as i'm off this week on holiday i wanted to get a jobs sorted.
Had this new steering wheel on since Billing, but couldn't find nice simple centre for it, for i've painted the centre it came with (even if i don't like it) and i also painted the bolts to. But wanna do them again in satin black.

So next job was the sump, as since i changed the oil its been leaking. First thing was to get the down pipe and system off.. Loads of room
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8367.jpg
Getting to the back ones was a little hard..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8369.jpg
Lucky i had this.. Was perfect for the rear bolts.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8371.jpg
All off.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8372.jpg
Sump off, i found the gasket was dry on the bottom but wet on the top..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8377.jpg
Also found this in the sump pan..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8379.jpg
Its an spacers from an old cork gasket...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8380.jpg
Found a use for this old thing.. lmao
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8375.jpg
Got it all cleaned up and ready to refit. But my nicely polished sump had gone a bit misty..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8383.jpg
After a quick buff...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8384.jpg
Got it all cleaned up, this time the bottom of the block a thin smear of blue (gotta colour match) RTV and all refitted, new filter on and left to dry.
From there i moved on to my new brake set up.
Calipars needed a good clean up and repaint.. They had some fire/water and crap in them..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8358.jpg
Cleaned them up and they are ready to repaint.
A good thing about working at a motor factor is old stock...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8360.jpg
Ah perfect for the job..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8361.jpg
Got new discs too and painted the centres and edges..
From there i moved back in to the car... Unbolted the sunroof glass, so i could remove the sun cover bit.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8392.jpg
Out..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8395.jpg
Removed the vents bit of trim.. This needs to be painted.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8396.jpg
Pulled the old covering off and got out my roll of headlining martial out...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8401.jpg
Cut to size, lay over and make out vent hole..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8402.jpg
Cut out vent hole..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8403.jpg
Lay martial on it, use spray glue thats says "use in ventilated area" so not in my front room no? Yes i feel a bit light headed..lol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...s/IMG_8404.jpg
When the tops dry, i can flip it over and fold and glue the edges. Then refit the plastic vent bit.
Also order up a few silicone hoses from Chris Astley, the only ones i can really use...
Rad to stat hose, head to matrix and the front hot water out of the turbo to rad return.. They will be here in a few days So i can drain the system and refill it properly.
Cars looking sweet in retro cars mag Benn in their Billing feature :d

Cheers Nicko.
Cheers Graeme.
Hoping my new fuel piping comes tomoz, then i can get that fitted and fit my new fuel pump too.
The heat is on...... Im hoping people will think my new project may be good enough to compete against you for the victor cup in 2010..... On your marks, get set....... Buff!
Sorry pal, had one too many strongbows this eves lol. On a serious note though lets hope were both deemed good enough to make the billing ring again next year. :)
If i drive in and your thread i'll be angry..lol
With that way you roll i'm sure you'll be there again...
Altho my whole system is a bit big to polish at home....
Yeah it was the owner that did it to his own car lol we had to laugh at him, was so funny how he couldn't understand what was wrong with getting a hammer and smashing a big hole in it lolQuote:

Yep, hopefully will get to most of the shows this time, hopefully can get mine along to some of them aswell providing its finished. :)
Do it.
Spent the day getting the system off.. What a c**t. Cause of the size of the tubing i've had to jack the car up with the beam dropped down and undo the shocks to make cleanace.
Then i could drop the tank down.
Found of why it was leaking fuel...lol and why there was a smell of fuel in the car...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...tes/day210.jpg
Found some of the fuel hose i got from work.. Funking stuffs a tiny bit to small. So am gonna have to buy some.. GGrrrr
This came to day, nice fast delivery. We sell Fuel parts stuff at work, the pump is £150ish pounds.. Got this off ebay for £49.99. On the site its a own brand pump, but is right for a 2lt Cav, Cally, Astra and a few Bwms too. So the prices wasn't bad for a own brand one, but a bargain for a fuel parts pump.
Finish off buffing the rear box up too.

Even the welds polish up nice..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ates/day25.jpg
my over fill hose has done that on my tank, how do you get it off, as it goes through the body work doesnt it.
and is it a tank out jobby?
Yeah tank needs dropping down.
The filler neck breather passes through a plastic gromet in the chassis leg visible through the arch. The main issue with that pipe is that it is moulded with a 90deg at the end where it comes off the tank. If you are just using plain replacement fuel hose, it will kink & not breathe. :thumb:Quote:
