Dave the mats you see in the car now were in my blue x14xe now owned by mr peester. If i can find some green gm rubber one's (or some suitable "retro" mats) i'll let you know.
ok another small update;
Not touched it for weeks now, apart from removing the exhaust to fit a more subtle system. the current centre section was standard! Thanks to baxter for my new system, it's a sportex, but it'll be losing the shinee tailpipe for something less shouty. Also removed the powercap, and will be removing the snowplough shortly to sort the messy front panel.
The steels are going too, to be replaced by some rfx's for road use. (i did buy some th's but didn't think they'd suit as much as rfx's so sold them on)
I also have some show wheels in the pipeline, needless to say they're wide, 13" and made of steel.
I'm also going to experiment with some -60 rear springs too.
Pics asap, i promise!
Sound like my 14" plans :p
Any pics of the RFXs?
7x13 starmags ;) thats the way to go :P
I love this pic:

John,
What width are these steels, and what tyres you running?
Cheers,
Dec
dec, these are cav mk2 5 1/2 x 14" dunlop steels. they're running 185 60 14's, but i think i'll run 185 55's on the rfx's.
p.s you filter is in the post.
Ahhh... I thought the were 14's. My Astra GTE's have 185/60/14's fitted I think, the Yokohama A-drive tyre also has a nice thread pattern. The RFX's will look lovely on this, good choice :cool:Quote:

banded steels for the win john!
Have you fitted the sportex yet John? Prepare for noise! lol
love that pic of it in the tgarage john, why are you removing the snow plough though, it looks soo much smarter with it on
also, sell me your mats lol
cheers stoo, i reckon i'm only going for 7" wide though, anything more will kill the arches! There's been lots of interesting threads over on retro-rides regarding legality of banded steels, but i've seen the workmanship of this guy, and he's good. Plus they'll only be for show. Rfx's for the road.Quote:

i say go for some sr steelows with cenetrs, like that geige slaoon has iirc
i only really fitted it to hide the shonky front panel because i didn't have time to do owt with it before this years pvs.Quote:

Will look better with the snow plough off.
SR's wear them well due to the black vinyl on lower doors, rear spoiler & the vinyl tailgate sticker.
Cant wait to see it on the new wide steels.
I kind of miss my silver moss GL
looks sweet with the widened sr steeelies.......
and i agree with loosing the snow plough aswell
if its nice and tidy behind.....it looks sweet
Lose the snow plough.... no keep it! :)
Ha ha! cool dave! Need to find a better side on pic.Quote:

And hopefully next time i see these they'll be 7" or 7 1/2" wide (still can't decide, 7 is the safe option, but 7 1/2 will look cooler.)
Hmmm, wonder what the chances are of finding some opel "blitz" style centre caps is ala peesters shop?
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ter16v/005.jpg
How about just spraying the chrome tip mattblack?
Should make it look more subtle.
i have some opel caps?
Deffo for 13's mark? iirc the 14" centre caps are different.
yep
cool, pm me a price if you want to sell them.
make me an offer mate I just want shot it'll be a few weeks before i can post get me on msn if you use it?
Dont wish to sound like nugget but what is it you did with the chassis leg ?? most i have seen have been cut ou and boxed or battered with ahammer !! The way you have done it is far better in my eyes.
Yeah i only slitted the chassis leg, and gently pushed it back with a soft mallet and simply re-welded it. the engine sits on solid mounts so doesn't move that much. There's loads of room to change the alternator belt too.
Tidy mod, how much did you push it in by approx ?? Saw your car in Total Vauxhall and i have to say it inspired me to build a similar car. Ive bought two Novas. One is a 1988 1.2 Swing with ony 24k on it and the other is a Courtenay build car with an xe fitted but the shell is rotten now. Ive been reading your build as a step by step guide to help me when i start my build.
Not much, about 10mm. Cheers cheif! i trust you've started a w.i.p?
Nah, i'm feeling the need to remove it altoghether, for a less obvious mild steel pipe the same diameter as the rest of the system, plus it exits the bumper at an angle, and i want it exiting straight.Quote:
