well finally got all the engine bay/front panel painted. It is pukka! Chuffed with what it came out like as it was the first time i have sprayed. It looks rubbish in the pictures but thats just because it is sooo nice and shiny. I will get pics of it outside tommorow with a few parts back on and i think it will make it look alot better.

anyone have a wee metal radiator clip (that goes onto the front panel and holds the rubber bush on the radiator in place)?? I have lost one and could do with one. Any chance anyone could be so kind and post a metal clip to me please? pm me for my adress etc.
Also anone have 2 spare j-clips that hold the bolts in the wing in place. They go between the wing and the inner wing. Sure you will know what i am on about. They clip onto the inner wing i can put a threaded bolt onto it. Thanks. Greg
weill i have a shopping list and hopefully after i have got all that stuff i should have the project nearly finished.
I need new brake pipes/braided hoses
bottom ball jonts,
track rod ends,
new bilstein/spax struts,
wheel bearings (all four)
polybushes (replace nearly all the bushes on the car),
plastic primer for my bumpers etc,
K&N filter,
ashley exhaust system,
bonnet pins (still tnot sure if i should get them)
new window washer motor thing (that goes in the plastic bottle)
Anyone know how to get the best finish on my gsi bumpers?
I was just going to rub them all down and get them all nice and smooth then prime them and paint them with 2k black paint to watch the car. SHould i use lacquer on top of that or something? I will be doing my mirrors, gsi spoiler, gsi skirts and grill all at the same time.

Anyone also know what this wire is? it comes out of the loom near the window wiper motor. It is a very short wire and has a red/brown and brown wire i think. Is this for the window skoosher motor/pump thing?

is the black 2k solid colour if so then no need for laquer, only on base coatsneed laquer.
Flat it down fill all stone chips prime it up flat it down again then paint with the 2k black.
yoza
the 2k black is a proper made up paint from a bodyshop. Not sure if its a solid colour or not. I asked for 200 vauxhall black paint and thats what they gave me.
If its 2k mate it is a solid colour ;)
well got a few more pics for you-

Vaughan!
no. they are just the wheels that will be on it for now until i can afford speedlines or something like that. My sr 3 spokes have been re-sprayed and they will be going on once all the work has been done.
wlel mate, wave good bye to your finder when you put those windows in, they hurt like hell, even worse if you want to put the reg etched glass in
well i have got loads of nice new parts coming for the nova soon. Got new bottom ball joints, track rod ends, mintex brake shoes, handbrake cable, rear wheel cylinders and rear wheel bearings. Also trying to source a set of braided brake lines (just replacements for the rubber bits) QUICKLY! can anyone help me?
just need to get plastic primer and thinners and another litre of black paint, polybushes, K&N, ashley exhaust system, 2.0 16v brakes for the front and gsi interior. Thats about it.
was up helping greg today (well watching him) he was putting the 1.3 sr in and wiring it up. he has just sent me a text to say that it started and was running fine,
this is going to be smart first car.:thumb:
cheers callum! yes she's alive! i am well chuffed! Its running rough but after i let her run for a while i held the revs on and she started to clear itself.
the engine all went in nicely and i never got pissed off once. luck was on my side today!ha ha

hey is it just me, or do all us yong'uns have leccy window switches and window winders? lol
its because were cool lol
ha ha, yes i am a weirdo the same as you dave. got a eleccy window switches aswell as winders. Its to go with the gsi interior and dash though.
http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o...h_MOV00029.jpg
thats her just getting started for the first time since being stripped down.
anyone know why i have not got any dash lights? when i turn my ignition on, my heaters and lights and cd player all turn on but my dash lights do not come on. Even when i start it the dash lights still do not come on???
dont know mate, check the plug is plugged in the back of the dash,
also your batterys abit flat lol
fuse?
Could be the earth to the clocks.
Top thread this, great stuff.
could be the ignition live to the clocks? :S
i have just been out and had it running again and the battery is really flat and wont even hold a charge. I need to put jump leads onto it.
Could the batery be the problem?
I thought it was a dodgy earth so i put a eart going from the negative battery teriminal onto the bulkhead and a thick earth wire from the end of the gearbox onto the chassis leg.
When i was out about an hour ago i noticed when i pulled the choke out (its a automatic choke on the engine, so would not to anything) i could see the choke warning light on but very dim?? that then made me think it was maybe just such a flat battery but surely when she is idling everything should work. The heaters etc work when i turn them on and it does not want to drop the engine revs atall???
Greg
Aye, proper flat battery would cause dash not to light up.
But with the engine running the dash should be fully lit(its running off the alternator when the engines running)
Check the ignition lives to the dash, and the brown earths.
also it still isnt running on all 4 cylinders. She has got a hell of alot better but still misssifiring. I have not got a airbox on, low fuel and the vacum pipe from the manifold to the brake servo is not connected yet. would this cause the problem?
I also wondered if it was with me swapping the plugs and leads. I have got 1.2 carb'd plugs and leads on it and a 1.2 coil.
Whats the firing order? does anyone have any diagrams or pics that will show me excactly where what lead goes where. Thanks ina advance.
Greg
how do i check this?Quote:
Check the ignition lives to the dash, and the brown earths.
i will go and make sure my alternator is actually working.ha ha
Do you have a multi meter?
Firing order is 1-3-4-2
No1 cylinder is at the timing belt end.
And No1 lead goes on the top right terminal on the dizzy cap, then 3,4,2 in a anticlockwise direction on the cap.
If you have the brake servo pipe disconnected then the engine will be drawing a big amount of air in through the hole(which the carb wont be metering for) That may be causing a misfire(very lean mix)
yes i have a multi-meter.
will make sure i have all my plugs etc on and my airbox and my pipe from the servo to the manifold and she if she runs better. The reason i have not got that pipe on as i was really struggling geting it onto the servo.lol
will go and give it a small bash with a rubber mallet!:D
all my plugs and leads were in the correct place etc. Put my vaucum pipes back on etc and my airbox and she is still missfiring
When she is running it makes a quick ticking noise (think its the tappets)??
Anyother ideas on what coukd be wrong? the only thing i done was replace the manifold gaskets and the rocker cover gasket. Anything i could have done wrong?
Ahh, just had a thought. I have not got a earth wire going from the alternator bracket/bolt onto the manifold bolt. Could this cause any problems?
My dad says it might need a good run and the hydraulic tappets might be seized. Is this possible?
Ticking can be a sign of a blowing exhaust manifold gasket.
Fit the alternator earth wire to the bracket/inlet.
eventually got it running properly. Still a ticking noise but she is sounding healthy again. Stil think it could be better but am sure a good run and a oil change and plugs and leads will sort it.
A few more pics-
cant wait to get samco's on and a strut brace and k&n. will look really good i think.

that last pic is the igniton on but has no red lgihts. I have turned the headlights on and the choke so i can show everything else works except the red lights????
Anyone have any ideas?
Greg
the tapping might be your tappets, is it like a high tapping sound on tickover and low revs? if so it could be your tappets, mine need doing aswell lol
us two are the same lol
i knwo the ticking noise is the tappets.lol. am not affected about that as i will run her till she blows up and then fire another engine in it. have a choice of 2 1.2 engines, 1.4 engine and 2 2.0 engines.
i could do with finding out what the problem with the lights it though?
thats me got everything sorted now. all perfect again. ha ha
she is running on 4 cylinders now and revs clean but idling she is still missing every now and again. Think the carb will need set up.
need a new camshaft kit for it or go back to the 1.2. really cant be ****d swapping engies again. starting to lose interest in this now. (will only be for a short time)ha ha.
replaced a few things lately. will get a few pics up soon.
