Hi Jon any news?
Lee
Hi Lee I think I'm finally getting there with this.

Here's the inlet going back on before the throttle bodies where refitted with new gaskets...
None of which fixed the problem, though given the size of the air leak in not really suprised, but it had to be done just to eliminate it!
After that its been a process of elimination just working through the sensors. I ran it again last night on the dyno with a new set of injectors which also made no difference, but as luck would have it whilst doing a bit of head scratching and thinking I left the dyno fan running and overcooled the engine without realising, the next run the fueling came back and by playing around with the heater and the dyno fan managed to get the engine temp to a point whereby the fueling was correct. So it looks like its a water temp sensor issue! as I type I'm just waiting a call back from Webcon as I speak as to whether the sensor fitted is the right one with the correct linearisation curve or that it has just failed. If only I had driven it at full throttle cold I would have seen it sooner :( but to be fair I hate doing this to any engine! I'm relieved to have found it as I was starting to run out of idea's!
The next step is a new sensor and a thermocouple in the top hose so I can recheck it and be a bit more scientific about the exact water temp reather than working of the vague dash gauge
On a positive the engine has had a fantastic and complete health check
Must be throttle body time of year ;)
With the car up and running its out for one last drive before the big strip down..

Let the strip down begin first off the blue and grey checkers

More to come..
It's now Ken mobile (instead of Barbie) :) I love to see this car still alive! I really scared Jeremy destroy it in Top Gear :)
cool thread man, loads of history :)
whats your plans bar the 1300S ?
did the sport have any specific default wheels ?
Not completly made up my mind on the exact spec, I'm on a mission to get all the missing parts that I sold a few years back which was a mistake! So I'm after seats anyone! :)
I have purchased a Quaife box like it had when I previously owned it. And the Raceline RL7's wheels will be staying. Suspension wise I'm leaning towards 2 way adjustable coil overs, but I have loads of time to think about this as I just starting the strip down at the moment.
looking good mate :)
Have i missed the point where you have decided whether it will be returned to looking like a sport with a 1300, or returning to its current spec and XE?
Or has that decision not been reached yet lol
Its been a tough one but it looks like the jury has gone with the 1.3 Sport option, After all the combination of high revving 1.3 on Webbers with the Quaife box adding to the sound track is a great combination....

It would need to be a fairly tweaked one, I've even had the daft thought to try and run Webber Alpha on it as the Throttle body's do fit the Irmscher Inlet manifold. I would need to see if the I can adapt them so that the Irmscher airbox work with it, plenty of time to decide on that though!
I want to soarce some original seats namely the fronts (I think I have the rears sorted) so I have got them for the long term future. To start with I would like to keep the car light so I'm on the look out for some Kevlar Magnums or Recaro's like it had on the Clarkson Video.
I have a pair of these very light weight Recaro's in Kevlar but they are just to modern for this project.

Would swap them for good Sport / SR seats though....If I can tempt anyone :)
Hi John Its Stuart Morgan I sold you the engine back for your sport.
Hows the car coming along?
How much would you be looking for one of those seats? Pm me if youd like to sell
The video was matthew pinder in a sport ,i was led to believe it was the sport i bought c599cyl ,it looks identical even down to the stack rev counter ,i am sure that i have seen a picture of the outside and it had the same decals on the side skirts .
i would be interested in the other seat if you do want to sell them
Dan I have sent you a PM.
Hi Stuart the Sport is coming on I've got it stripped now and will be starting the body repair work soon, but have recently bought an awful old MOT failure C reg Nova base for some additional trim spares etc so have been stripping that to scrap it, so I can get it out of the workshop as I'm taking up to much space with what Sarah calls my rusty wrecks!
How's yours coming on with my interior! :-)
Ps any luck on finding that alternator bracket :-) cheers Jon
I've not updated for a while so heres a little of what Ive been doing, to be honest with work being busy Ive not got very far.. but that said Ive been concentrating more on getting the bits I'm missing....

I bought this MOT failure Nova Merit of ebay as it had some good brown interior got a load of brown clips as very good gloove box as mine had been drilled for an alarm. It also had some very good brown interior rear wheel arch trims.

I had been trying to get some new inner sill / bulkhead genuine wiring clips but had failed, so as this beige gem was being scrapped I hole cut the sills so I could get behind the clips to release them without breaking them. Shame then that 2 weeks later Lee pointed me in the direction of some for sale :wall:

Nice, so your going to fully restore this then to as a Sport should be?
Very nice mate, love seeing shiny new gm parts!
would you be able to give me the site for this stuff cause im mad after a few bits and bobs
thanks .....
I'm sure that box of bits is used in my spider build as well!
Nice to see your still progressing with this Jon even though your probably sorting out much newer products at work lol
Whats left to source on this then?
Yes most of the stuff we see nowdays is current, however the simplicity is along with the lightness of the Nova is a refreshing change. In fact part of the dicision in moving it back to the small block engine was made early this year, when for the first time in a long while we had a Nova SR in for a cambelt & water pump. The car was standard but the road test was still enjoyable and I was pleasantly suprised by the way it went. So with a bit more power from the twin 40's etc combined with a little less weight and a close ratio gearbox it should be entertaining.
Bits left to source.. some glass as some of my original had got some mig splatter on, unfortunately this happened when the roll cage was developed, I was hoping that the biege car would donate some glass but it had been etched  I also need a pair of rear coat hooks as Ive not found any yet.
Hey Mark, yes some of those box's and bits were yours. :)
Nice collection of parts there Jon.
You have PM.
Lee
Making good proress, I should get on with Sport2 myself, but a few jobs still to do on the other two nova's
Saw this beast in the flesh today, look forward to seeing some progress Jon
Can't wait to see more progress on this Jon
Just over 4 years ago C318 went into storage, however I pleased to say its back in my possession, in the workshop complete with all the spares I had amassed over the years. Thanks to Kevin for looking after it so well in its Carcoon and to Ian, Marc & Su for all the help going to collect and loading the mountain of parts. So its back on with the restoration again...:)
