so the one in pieces will be fully rebuilt over the up coming year

re hone block
re grind crank
balance bottom end
port and polished head

Ah the old familiar overspray on the arm scenario . Been there many many times lol! It's coming on really well!
cheers mate, ive got some white spirt somewhere so hopefully the paint comes off lol
I usually spray my fingers and it looks like nail varnish lol
i carried on spraying the end of my trigger finger when doing the engine bay :tard:, was getting serious cramp in it aswell, the kind of feeling you get when you write stuff down for to long lol
i cant wait for everything to be all clean and painted ready for assembly, never worked on a clean car before normally contending with rusty bolts and years and years of grime and nastiness :O
Looks to be coming on well pal, welds look good to!
re the engine, talk to iaiaian about how to rebuild an engine. he did a fine job of his xe. its all about measuring & being patient...

can some one help me out what fuel tank is this
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/SAM_0888.jpg
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/SAM_0889.jpg
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/SAM_0890.jpg
was giving the worst of the rust a good going ovder with a wire brush and the found this
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/SAM_0893.jpg
its the only hole on the tank and as i like top restore rather then replace everything how could i go about fixing this?
im thinking of having the tank powder coated, so if it went off to sand blasting, could i use a chemical metal before the powder coating stage
also gave these a good wire brush ready for paint
http://i475.photobucket.com/albums/r...t/SAM_0887.jpg
not the biggest best'est ever update but, mehhh
A gte/gsi type efi tank according to Mowgli the same as I have but a lot more rusty.
http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthr...ank&highlight=
Tank is scrap unless you weld it.
Aslong as the fuel is drained out its alright.
dont know if its going to be a waist of money having it sandblasted, it looks worse then it really is now Ive wire wheeled it back
might just do it and try and weld a plate over the hole, either way its practice i guess :tard:
I would not weld it they can go BANG! try brazing it ( I hope the spelling is correct)
there is no fuel init and hasnt been in years and years, was watching wheeler dealers and they were using steam to make sure there was no vapor left in there might be worth a go lol
Well im not on about tipping it out then going, yep, that'll do then striking up the welder am i:roll:
Just saying if you make sure the fumes are absolutely gone then its perfectly safe to do so.
Try Nottingham radiators. They pressure tested mine to make sure there was no holes or weak spots, and brazed up a hole. Also came back painted in a stone guard black paint. Wasn't to expensive either

cheer ian (with the right amount of i's)
will give them a buzz after payday :thumb:
It's OK Andy, but we must be a bit careful with TJ he is a bit accident prone. lol
:thumb:
Fill the tank with water and weld, or even petrol, remember its the fumes that are flammable. Water would be your best best though :)
or use petrol patch, amazing stuff :)
petrol patch never heard of it, is it a permanent fix mate?
no, its a bodge, but it can work for a good while.
you can get new replacement gte tanks.....
follow the linky........ [click]
there aren't many left, but these people might be able to get more.
