I do still love watching that video, your shaft going in and out, in and out, in and out...... lol
You need to find somebody skilled with a lathe to make up those spacers.

Meh box of washers, job done! lol
 This is iain were talking about, a bodge like that
how come your not having the beam etc powder coated? what type of paint will you be using?
Using POR15 paint. It's like a fancy Hammerite but especially for cars/chassis/etc. Applied to bare metal (after using their marine clean and metal-ready) and apparently provides very good protection against rust.
Just thought it'd be cheaper than getting them powdercoated, and it won't feel quite as bad if I end up having to mod the beam/lower arms/etc later on.
All my bits are painted up nice

Think there was some blast media hiding somewhere as some of it is quite bitty, but it's good enough for suspension and mounts:

Beam:

Poly bushes in the lower arms:

Push the pin half way in by hand:

And finish it up in a vice (probably didn't even need to tho tbh, proper easy to fit!):

All done:

Got my inner CV spacers from Quaife, think they slot on to the CV as follows:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/035.JPG
Put them in the diff, tbh there's still about a 1mm gap/amount of play. Found if I bend out the inner CV clip a bit it holds it a little more stable so may get some new clips and see how it is then:

Bits look good in black.
its all in those minor details...
Good work :)
Just improved the shape of the circlip and the shafts stay in to the diff tightly now. Anyone know where I can get new ones?
Best way to build a car IMO.Quote:

It's on my list of potential future improvements, not too expensive or difficult to do in the future.Quote:

He said I must have a very early box for this to be a problem (although not sure how that's possible as the CVs won't be from the same car?!)Quote:

Your CVs are cav mk2 inners? Or are you running bigblock stuff?Quote:

good ol' spacers hey
'is it for a nova?'
'yeah'
'spacers mate'
Cav mk2 inners on 22 spline shafts yeah. As far as I was aware they're the same size as std bigblock inners - after all they fit snugly in the standard diff. Never mentioned the fact I was using them to Quaife for this reason.
Alex you got me a part number for the inner circlip?
this painted yet?
Not heard anything yet, will give him a call tomorrow to see how he's getting on.
is this the worlds slowest rebuild?
wouldnt say slowest lol
Best things come to those that wait
Check out Nova Ian's for a slower rebuild (sorry Ian lol)
I'll remind you of that once the shell is back and you start finding things to undo and do again lolQuote:

Easier to fit the casing to the internals rather than vice versa, so plonked the box on:

Nice clean selector turret fitted:

Now on to the diff, I was a bit worried about this but once I got stuck in it was fine!
Diff mount, new bearing race and shaft seal:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/041.JPG
Here's what was stamped on the bearing race, if anyone's after new diff bearings for an F20 (not sure if Timken bearings are any good but time will tell):
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/042.JPG
Used the old race to fit the new ones and the seals, bish bosh bash:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/043.JPG
32mm socket sat nicely on the middle part of the bearing, and tapped it on to the diff:

Part number for a new F20 speedo drive, cost approx £11 trade:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/045.JPG
Soaked it in hot water and it snapped on nice and easy, all done. Just need to torque the crownwheel bolts up with some loctite and it's good to go in:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2a/046.JPG
good work dude, you make it look like you've done it loads of times before
he probably has if his undersealing is anything to go by lolQuote:

What i was thinking about benn, surly it would be better to at least put some oil around it, as when you first start it with the input shaft spinning, no oil will be moving around.
When I fill it up for the first time I'll remove the selector turret and pour the oil in all over the gears so probably be ok?
TBH I've found hardly any info on gearboxes, and my Haynes just says "take it to an expert", so just guessing most of it :d
Your deffo no expert lol
Now its all back together, best you can do really, ideally do it not long before you start it, and id suggest to get using it straight away imo. Best to get things lubed up and all, you would know....
Popped over to see the shell tonight.

Poor guy had to mask up the whole cage too lol
Looks very nice! Can't wait to get my shell ready for paint :)
That does look rather good
You lazy sod! you didn't mask the cage up! that will bump your price up... lol
So who did you get to do this in the end, local place? how much if you dare disclose?
Looks a nice booth and good prime coat too..
Scott
Coming along well.
Makes my usual runs and dry patches look a bit amateur really lolQuote:
