Then my gas ran out. Changed the bottle over to a new one which was one of the higher pressure 110ltr mini bottles but nothing coming through??? Had to leave it but will investigate during the week so I can crack on!
Nice to see an update, interesting rear space frame, will keep my eye on the progress!
Good project there bud. :thumb:
As regards to gas what is it your using?
Also would it not be more cost effective to buy a refillable bottle?
Those mini one's only last 30 mins i found.

I only use it on this car and as we all now that doesnt happen very often! lol Other than these fiddly little bits I'm doing the rest is mostly just tacking tubing together as a friend will be doing the finishing off.Quote:

Looks like if I ever change to a later, tougher box I shouldbe able to use the porsche clutch plate with a turbo cover plate.
Anyone care to have a stab at whats wrong/what I'm doing wrong with my welder??
It was all going swimmingly when the weld started getting lots of small perferations in. Gas ran out I thought as is normally the case! Switched to a new bottle I got but its still the same?? makes no difference to the weld at all no matter what setting I have on the regulator. It also seems to leave a lot of brown sooty deposit when it welds. I took off the shroud and cleaned it all off/out etc but no difference. Tried another bottle but no difference. Any ideas?? Only difference is I'm using a 110ltr mini bottle rather than the lower pressure ones of the same size. Its co2/argon mix which Ive always been using.
Hear the gas coming out the nozzle? Put it next to your ear lol
It's probably just unclean crappy nova metal tbh
This is on fresh metal too.
I didnt hear the gas first come out when I turned the reg for the 1st time as it happened. Also didnt do it on any of the older bottles. I wonder if the reg is damaged or something. The pin does move but maybe not enough??
Something I got told to try when I was suffering low flow rates, was to just put something against the pin on the bottle, and tap it, as they sometimes stick, and also make sure the reg is screwed all the way down. It's possible the regulator is damaged though, they are only cheap things for hobby bottles usually, £10-13 for a brass casting with all the intricate parts to seal against 110+ bar... something has to give somewhere
About £16 for a new one from Machine Mart. Worth a go I think.
You can get a fairly decent size proper bottle on a non rental thing for about £55 (including regulator!) +£50 deposit? That might work out best for you, it will weld nicer too tbh. Want me to drop you a link?
So on to todays progress. With the drivers side done I went onto the passenger side...

Part way through... as you can see I blew through towards the bottom right. Because its nearly upside down its outside my skill set to puddle it so will wait till cars on the spit and repair that.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../26-04-112.jpg
And all done...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../26-04-113.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../26-04-114.jpg
Which meant I could tack this in...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...t/26-04-11.jpg
Onto the rear plates next.
Looks like I need to get my **** in gear and get you some more tubes to tack up :d
Got plenty more to go yet bud, no rush!
Well, don't wanna give you the chance to pause, last time we did that it was a year before you got the cage... lolQuote:

18" Rota Drifts, 8.5" front, 9.5" rears for now. Will eventually get some 10s for the back and put 9.5s on front but these came up so cheap I couldnt say no. Just need some spacers and coilovers for it next. Picked up some 320mm brembos for the front too, just waiting on delivery and in the process of sorting 300mm brembo rears
:)
My shock has disappeared for a minute there I thought you had done something to the nova lol
bah-ha-ha lol lolQuote:

Mark - How do you think your exam went today?
Benn - just needs slamming now!!
I'm sure I never mentioned I had an exam, stalking me? lol Fairly well, guessed one question from theory without revising it or knowing any of the formulas but got reasonable answers, if that comes off I should be on for a 2:1/1st in that, one Wednesday I nailed and be surprised if I don't have a first tbh!
You see! All that time spent studying between jerking off has paid off in the end :)
In my sad way i prefer the Vectra! lol
i agree.. a lot of the jap stuff isn't good looking...Quote:

The wheels shouldnt end up costing me anything if all turns out how it should.
Neither should mine but they now owe me £240 considering I cant sell the old ones lolQuote:

Just a little proof the project is still alive - we now have door bars!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...t/11-07-11.jpg
Was up the shed today rolling and sealing the rear arches on the vectra and had a little down time while the sealer was drying so had a crack at the door bars. I fecked the 1st attempt up by getting the scollop too wide but no biggy, its a 48" piece so pretty confident can get re-used. Once you get an idea for it the ends arent actually too hard to do.
There has been a change of plans with the car that shall hopefully see it finished quicker mainly because it will be half if not a third of the original cost.
:d
