Well just got in from a very looooonnnnnnnggggg day but pleased with what was achieved! I took more pics but with the light poor and the iphone not having a flash they didnt come out :( But here's what I got....
Started by welding the back edge of the foot plates as once the tube is in place it wont be easy to get to. So 1st time for well over a year doing a bead of weld it wasnt tooo bad...

Then on to the next three...

Got the a piller tubes in place where I wanted them next with the handy use of some cable ties then tacked it into place...

Main hoop was up next and it needed some pursuading to say the least but happy with the final position and laid down some nice slugs too :)

Started fettling with the windscreen bar next and just need to finish that up hopefully in the morning. So this is where I'm up to....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...t/08-04-11.jpg
A downside to the whole affair is that due to the snugness of the fit the body has been stretched and most of the dents in the roof have now popped out :(
fook me i thought this was a few bean tins now lol get a move on man lol
nice update though keep at it
Hammer time.lolQuote:

Then I got cracking with welding everything in and the wire ran out

Will try n get some more wire in the week. Not sure when I can get up there next, hopefully sunday night.
What setting are you using on the rollcage stuff? doesn't look like it's penetrating much to me
Its on setting two. Its penetrating ok. I can see the tube burning through as I push the weld along.
I would crank it up to 3 min/3 max for that depending how slow you're moving, very much doubt it would start blowing through.
I'll blast a small off cut i've got and see what the crack is. Tube isnt "that" thick tho.
Your plates should be though, 3mm? Which means you can stay away from the tube ever so slightly, get good penetration into it all, being a tube up against a 3mm plate it's also quite a chunky construction in general so tends to act like a big heatsink.Quote:

What about the tube to the plate in the last pic?Quote:

Thats very interesting! I assumed it would be min 1, max 1, min 2 etcQuote:

I think the other Clarke MIG models use the MIN1, MAX1 etc etc order which is quite confusing?!
Looks like the smaller models go they way we thought Mark, its just the higher ones that are different.
Yeah mine is a higher one, same as yours but it's got a bottle holder and wheels lolQuote:

Still doesn't make your welding any better tho..... :p
You both weld like the pair of homo's that you are! lol
Looking good Simon. will have to get them both on a track day somewhere when they are finished. !!

The cage & rear end, gearbox etc are all one structure. The car is no longer structural. The cage is the chassis.
Ah, space framing... Nice.

I'm spending what free time I can up there but its near on impossible nights as I just dont get home from work in time and cant work up there past 9pm cos of the neighbours. Weekends its trying to fit everything in! Just waiting on Mark to sort me some info out then I can find out how much the rear section is gonna cost me to get the tubing bent & supplied! :eek:Quote:

I know how you feel mind with the "not enough hours in the day" senario
have a good few bank holidays coming tho so that should help things.
I thought this had been scrapped ;)
So a few pics of what I've been up to (mainly fluffing about practising my welding!). lol
The drivers front base plate is all welded in. I made some small plates up to fill the gaps to the sill then blasted over the lot to make it look tidy...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...19-04-1112.jpg
I then set about tidying the front of the sill where it had been chopped off. So this is how it was...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...19-04-1110.jpg
Trim that back to shape...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../19-04-116.jpg
Bit of CAD and make a plate and tack it in...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../19-04-115.jpg
Blast round it...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...t/19-04-11.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../19-04-114.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../19-04-113.jpg
Smooth it all back...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../19-04-112.jpg
Then the next plate in place...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...19-04-1111.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../19-04-117.jpg
Just need to put the little fillet piece in next.
I'd also previously tidied up the area above along the seem. Its hard to see, but when you grind it back there is 3 parts to the skin and they need tieing back in.
Passenger side, unwelded...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../19-04-118.jpg
Drivers, welded...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../19-04-119.jpg
Some might wonder why I'm farting around doing this but it will all hopefully come clear soon! In hindsight I wouldn't have use the base plates that came with the cage and use some normal square bent plate but oh well, I'll know next time!
