all prepped now, metallic filler added to all treated areas to minimize the chance of rust returning, all sanded sown lovely and smooth, took us 3 or 4 times to get the drivers door perfect, but other than that 110% happy with the results. hopefully getting sprayed next week or mabey even this week.. so watch for updates

:thumb: finito! should look mint in the nova
good job with the visors, and car is gonna look top, keep it up!
TIP 1 -something that i learnt when I did my 1st respray
have you used cellulose putty on the filled sections?
If not I'd recommend giving it a skim. Filler (even the "metal" stuff) will have trapped bubbles in it when mixing - when you sanded it down these micro bubbles will come to the surface. You cant really see them - until you paint the car - then they appear like little pin holes! Even through primer.
Give it a quick skim of cellulose putty to seal the filler - smooth back with 800 grit and then your ready to paint - will save you lots of agro in the long run.
TIP 2 - if youre not removing the windscreen/rear back screen to prevent a hard paint edge where the masking tape meets the rubber of the surround, get some washing line and wedge it under the rubber to lift it up off the body - mask off then paint - the lifted edge will cause a gap and prevent a hard edge.
TIP 3 - use decent maksing tape and as soon as the paints dry get it off! Masking tape when covered in paint loses its solvent onto the masked ares and if left can be a biatch to remove - especially if its bog standard stuff!
apparently theres something better than putty out atm, so my uncle will putty it when it is at his, pin holes are a cnut i know.. ahd them before on other cars
its only getting 2 sides sprayed, boot and windscreen are going un-touched
masking will all be done by my uncle :thumb:
Dont use 'putty' to fill pin holes.prime it up then use 2k filler and wipe it in the pin holes before you block the primer down, then once all the primer is sanded down check for more pin holes,
I ditto that
will fit these visors tomorrow if i can be ****d going fown to the unit, spent all of today chasing the scrap mans truck round widnes after it was nicked, so im frigged lol. spraying hopefully at the latest end of next week. keep watching :thumb:
looking good Dave, nice to see a young lad not bolting Halfords, and fibre**** to his car.

big improvement imo, look factory too, and still has the zig zag pattern :thumb:
you didnt rub that filler down with water .... did you ????
no no no.. only the metal;lic stuff to get it super fine, but that lets in virtually no water anyway, we just rubbed the normal s*iit filler down dry.
Its fine to rub filler down with water, filler is porous yes but as long as you dont soak it in water or leave it out in the rain for ages.
To be honest using 80/120/180/ and then finishing with a quick 320 is good enough.
At Work We Use 120 Then 180 And A Buzz Down With 400
PMSL we use 1800 at our work ,got **** all to do with car's though lol
well, not much of an update, my uncles let me down by not spraying my car, so atm its currently stuck at the current stange, but hopefully where im going to do work experience later this eyar, hes going to sort me out with a "show standard" paint job next week :thumb:
anyways, just some more pics, mainly for iain as i knwo he loved the updates lol

she'll hopefully be ready for santa pod, but we were due to tax it on april 1st, but seen as it wasnt painted we couldnt, so im pretty p!ssed off with my uncle atm:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Really nice one mate look after it ;)
What stops you taxing it?
The car doesn't have to be there? :S
i know but dad wont let me tax it till its painted.
Is the car even going to be used??? Why are you so worried about taxing it now? Get a disc on it a week before PV show!Quote:

Why not wait till start of may so you have a full 12 months tax.
so whats the paint shop painting the full car now or just the bits as originally planned
tom, because im not paying for it and ive waited 2 extra months for it to be on the road
damo, both wings, both doors and both 1/4's, more of a 3/4 respray lol
got my mint drivers door today from the scrappers off a 2dr saloon, originally been calypso red lol, GTE POWER!
anyway might get that sprayed with the rest of the car, aswell as a gsi spoiler i got off carl as mines cracking everywhere, and this one appeares to be mint! :thumb:, so overall, a free spoiler and a free mint drivers door.. GREAT! :thumb:
