Yeah, don't get it on your hands, it even says so on the tin. Sitting at my desk at work with black hands at the mo lol
cant wait to see this finished :) some properly hard work must have gone into this...some properly ball ache work too ha ha good luck pal :) looking good !!!
lol more stone chip and painting of the underside!
Will be worth it though mate..
Scott
Stonechipped the underside finally, a nice sunny day after all the rain we've had!

Only issue is some of it has gone slightly crinkly before it's even dried:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/973.JPG
Assume this is only cosmetic and won't affect the strength of the finish? How would this happen? Maybe a thick layer over an undried layer?
Looking good mate.
Is there no need to put seam sealer on the seams before stone chippping?
Yeah I like to seam seal it before stonechipping, I left the original stuff on and only grinded off the top layer of flakey paint. Here's a pic from earlier in the WIP, these layers are still on:

Damn thats what i thought the bodyshop were my car is haven't done it will it be bad to do it now its been stone chipped
They may be right and I may be wrong TBH, as I've proved I'm clueless and rubbish when it comes to painting the underside lol
Yeah to thick, the pressure makes a wave look when its sprayed on. Dont worry about it. Get some white on.
Looks really good dude, now get it built up :)
just read the thread, savage amount of proper work has been done,!! kudos to you sir :)
Underside looks good now Iain - I think I'm going to Gravitex the underside of my Mk1 (We use that at my work and it looks cool and is also overpaintable) :)
I look forward to seeing more pictures
Underside looks well Iain
at least it'll look good upside down when you roll it on track lol only joking mate, cracking work - get it done - get it out on the black stuff!
i had this problem with mine cracking, aparantly you should only put one layer on. Also try and keep it out of sun Excess heat because if its a thick later the top goes of before the bottom and crack :)
That's at least four years away, will be rusty again by then lolQuote:

Talking of rust, some was creeping back through in the engine bay. Primer and seam sealer wasn't up to the job so I've bare metal'd the areas (and potential areas):

Which have now been prepped and painted with that POR15 stuff.
Also while it's been rainy finished cleaning out my CV joints (second hand inners and 22 spline shafts, and new outer CV joints), painting everything up nice, regreasing and building back up:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/978.JPG
Proper CV joint clamps fitted:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/979.JPG
And refitted the weight with new bolts, although not entirely sure what this does:

Thought the bay was all done?
Shafts look great.
I had taken the rust back to bare metal and etch primered/normal primered/seam sealered, but rust spots were showing through the primer again around the areas shown. Hopefully should be sorted now!
I did a shoddy job on bay prep anyway so will be sanding most of the primer in there off lol Good times
lol get it done! and get it in to a body-shop.
freshly sorted bay rusting already lol
Definitely progressing too slow lol
nice one bud
Anti rust paint everywhere, woo

Getting any holes I need sorted before paint. Since my rollcage triangulation goes through the original wiring loom hole, I've decided to take some inspiration from Benn and Prey's latest wiring loom progress to run it here:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/982.JPG
Handy hole from the side repeater I can use for the loom to enter the car:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/983.JPG
Not as much as I had hoped but all the loom extension soldering should be inside the car:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/984.JPG
Loom will enter the engine bay here, haven't got a side repeater to hand, but this should clear everything yes? It's pretty much in the middle of the slam where it meets the wing:

On second thoughts looking at these pics, once it's soldered up it won't be removable lol Any suggestions for this? Or just bigger holes and grommets?
tidy work, everything should miss it fine. if not then dont run any side reps. :)
Cheers Brucer, a very practical resolution; just remove anything that isn't gonna fit right!
Sorted this now. Just holesaw'd the loom holes to 38mm and going to order two headlamp grommets designed for a 'Triumph TR6/T120 (1962-70), TR7/T140 (1973-), BSA A65 (1971-72) and many other models'Quote:

I was looking for all sorts of connectors and plugs that aren't too big and couldn't find any. Ordered myself those grommets, the 38mm hole I've now drilled is big enough to fit all the front plugs through so I can solder it up as one loom again.
Corsa B door loom connections ;)Quote:

Very nice mate, you've done well there :)
Cheers, thanks for your advice earlier Mr Vaughan. 2pack is really nice to work with and brush on, better than expected!
Not a problem mate :)
about 20pins on a corsa door loom, but they are small pins and the OD of them is about 45mm.
Cheers for the info Alex, OD is bigger than the biggest plug on the front loom then (about 35mm) so not much better off.
what i thought.
Awesome work, glad to see paint on it at last.
Loom work looks good. I did bigger holes just for ease.
Nice work dude, getting there "SLOWLY" lol
And i know my parents would be screwing at me if i was doing a project on there drive for the time you have, and spraying on it, so fair play to them to!
Keep going now mate, almost there..
Scott
Apologies for my less-than-acceptable progress Scott lol Yeah fair play to them they've put up with a lot of Nova crap all over the place (there's an exhaust manifold and system in the lounge! lol)
More is now white! That's the cheap half of the car painted at least.

Good work, now do the insides and engine bay, then ship the out sides off to a bodyshop.
With a brush? lol
