All novas tend to have them small flaws that their owners arent happy with and I guess mine will be no different! But as said overall Im really happy with how its looking. :)Quote:

Its probably something that will never be noticed once the rub strips are on. Its not like many people crawl round on there hands and knees at shows and thats the only real angle you would notice it.Quote:

Very true... we will attempt perfecting though! If it can be done without ruining the gaps elsewhere as they are all very good we will. Its actually come out much better on the whole than I expected to be honest and I just cant wait to have it finished to rack some miles up! Next week fingers crossed.Quote:

A quick halftime update after a prompting from Mr Robinson! I cracked on over the easter hols and had the bonnet finished ready to go straight back on once we were back in on tuesday. The tailgate was filled with dinitrol and built up followed by the rear screen in and spoiler on. It was actually a different spoiler to what was on the car as I pretty much destroyed the old one when I removed it! Once fitted we noticed it didnt want to sit right on one of the top corners due to it obviously being very slightly twisted and spoiler tape not being strong enough to alter/hold it in postion. So we have tried to sort this by lifting up that corner and pumping in a little spoiler adhesive then taping it down to hold it in position like so........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1270669996
Hopefully that will sort the problem or I'll be looking for a new spoiler at a later date. The quarters/doors were then filled to the hilt with dinitrol followed by my new interior cards and the rear half of the cage too......

We've since also tried again with minor adjustments to the passenger door and catch in an attempt to perfect it before the mouldings went on etc. It has improved slightly but still isnt perfect however It is a minor flaw of an overall excellent job so I will live with it. Brand new mouldings were then carefully lined up and added today too. Now the finishing touched are going on the cars starting to look excellent....

Just the passenger seat and front half of the cage to add really build up wise then a huge cleaning mission as the cars covered in dinitrol, copper slip, overspray and dirty paw marks not to mension filler dust but I didnt expect anything different with spending a few weeks sat in the workshop! Im just currently trying to find the roll of red pinstripe in the loft then i can add that tommorow etc. More hopefully at the weekend guys. Big thanks to Keith by the way for a few emergency parts shipped from ireland in uber quick time! Thanks for reading, comments welcome!
Nick.
Nick you rock my socks!
Awesome work, car looks lovely! Can't wait to see it "cleaned" for the first time, and some proper daylight on it!
stunning, absoloutly stunning.
Agreed :)Quote:

But is it just me or the camera, because the bonnet looks a slightly different shade ?
Did you use the same paint ?
Just because the bonnet is up a wee bit the light makes it look different :)
All your seeing their Lewi is Face and side tone....... Basically the way the workshop (sodium) lighting is hitting the panels at different angles. I assure you all panels are bang on and all paint mixed was from the same tin applied exactly the same way. If there was a problem Id have sorted it by now!Quote:

Ill take your word for it though lol
One of my favourite things about this car is the door cards, i like how theyre not aftermarket ones like carbon fibre ones on a car thats had so much work done, do you plan on keeping those or changing them for some other GM items ?
Anyway
Keep up the flawless work man.
Is the fr bumper a tight fit around the intercooler? It looks 'awkward' somehow.
I assume you have an SR badge f't grille?
Looks perfect dude, everything looks like it lines up 100& spot on.
Utter legend.
Cheers Keith,Si,Benn and anyone else Ive missed!
Craig... You've puzzled me there! Bumper lines up and fits 100% ! Ive studied the pics and cant understand what your seeing? And yes I do have an sr grille badge for it that'll be added soon enough.
Lewi... The gm cards that are fitted will stay as I dont want to go on an aftermarket spree with this project. Just simple, subtle but effective in my eyes.
Nick.
I feel like I'm crawling ever deeper into your ar$e here mate, but I have to say IMO this is by far the best Nova since the turn of the century. lol :thumb:
im glad you changed the interior boot side trims to original ones, wasnt a fan of the speaker pod ones.
car looks fantastic nick!
What a car, would love to build something even half as good as this.
Well done mate - you have done a superb job as car looks stunning :thumb:
Brucer.... Cheers! And Yeah I wasnt a fan of the other rear trims either hence the new ones.
Cheers to L14mnp,Ian and Nunnsy also for comments.
Nick.
All i keep saying is WOW with a bit of drool dribblin from the corner of my mouth. Really nice nick. i love it! cant wait to see it in the flesh at shows this year!
Very impressed Nick :thumb:
Your boss must worry about the hours you put into that car surely though? What do they think of it?
Think i would prefer to see the full interior back in now though, a car built to this standard looks a bit unfinished with no back seats and those modern cobra's imo.
A full interior with that sensible cage would look great
I think it'd be good with a burberry sport interior.
I think what he means about the bumper, is if you look at it it looks like its really tight and sort of stretched on because of the intercooler being infront of it, i cant work out why it looks like this either, it might just be the colour playing a trick.
Sport interior is 'Daytona Check' the very 1st of the later Mk1 SR's had grey Burberry interior the same as a Mk2 Astra SRi etc
And here was me thinking you couldnt improve on perfection, youve proved that wrong as its looking even better now, i bet youre glad to have made your mark on it, when is she back on the road cos id still love to come for a nosey round her bud:thumb:
Thanks Joe, My boss is pretty cool with it to be honest.... I like to think of it as It works both ways etc as theres many a time I will stay after hours to finish an urgent job for him and not just myself etc. The lads from work just keep taking the mick really as they all drive posh bmw's. I see what your saying regarding the interior but Im happy with it and dont want to spend anymore cash at the moment so it'll stay as it is for now.Quote:

IMO probably the best SR restoration to date.
Very impressive work and now looks awesome.

None of which would stand a chance against your Nova lol :thumb:Quote:

Then I started on the glass inside and out as it was a mess.....

With the glass and interior trim all cleaned and in place I gave the battery tray a clean/polish up and filled it with dinitrol.... Compliments to shaun for how neatly this pipework has been thoughtout and re routed.......

Once the waxoil was dry the battery went back in and I left it to charge.......

Last night I stayed back a few hours to polish and then apply a sealant to the fresh paintwork. Id like to clay bar it all then use a quality wax to leave it uber smooth but with the paintwork still breathing and a little soft Im going to leave it a month or so before I do that as the clay may mark it and I dont want to take that chance. Ive dropped off the original 9mm pinstripe with my vinyl guys to colour match and their going to cut me a roll so I can add it to the bumpers later. Plus they are making me up a small custom vinyl too... but more on that later! here's how it was looking last night after a good clean/polish and tyres dressed........

Im still unsure what to do with the front calipers though???? Stay red to go with pinstripes/mouldings or go grey for subtlety? Opinions please..... Southie You may get a pm here!

This morning via trailor it made the return journey home. It has been the first time Ive seen the paintwork outside in the natural daylight. Generally when a job looks good in the workshop you know it will look good outside etc. And it didnt fail to either. Im over the moon with it........

Its now almost finished! Almost all my ideas I had before/after I bought it Ive put into practice. My autospark pal is due round later so I can speak to him regarding a new alarm/immob for it. But apart from routine maintenance/cleaning I just want to enjoy it after all the hours myself and others have put in. Id like to take this opportunity to thank the following too.....
My missus Jess, All the guys from work especially Huddo and my boss, Paul for paintless dent work, John scrafton for vinyl applications.... Edd rodgers,Mark Ridley,Keith Robinson and Sloth for supplying me with critical brand new original parts that have really made the finished article great and without them the car wouldnt be half as good in my opinion. Shaun Larnder for obvious reasons! Ian for use of his van for parts shipping. And lastly to all of you guys on png/jov for help and inspiration. It seems rather random my last project has just been featured in tv and the new one is almost finished and ready to go!!
As always Thanks for reading. :)
Nick.
stunning nick getting ready to take on ben again lol
that looks awsome mate very good work
lol cheers Rich... I think last year we had similar styled cars but this time around mine is much more subtle and Benn just continues to make his better and better. I think he'd beat me If we were both to make it to the ring again this year! ;)Quote:
