Inspired by Prey's WIP I had a go at fitting my Citroen ZX single wiper motor also. Got it on with 2 bolts so far, currently pondering a way of securing the third without having a bolt through the scuttle vents:

Welded a nut on the underside of the scuttle to secure the passenger side bolt:

Painted my rocker and plug cover (can see my belt cover in the background also). Looks okay in the pics but a lot of dust and runs so it'll get flatted back and resprayed:

Dug my cams out:

But some damage on the inlet cam means I probably won't be using one of them. It's scuffed quite deep where the oil seal sits so I'll probably source a new cam, if anyone knows of one for sale:

You going to be polishing up the 'Vauxhall...etc' on the plug cover ?
How is it done? Block and fine sanding paper to get it back to bare metal?
I think so mate then you could re-lacquer it or keep it polished and waxed to protect it
That's the way I'd do it - They look bland when it's all one colour and you can't see the writing
Will leave it for now - I have another plug cover where the original powdercoating hasn't flaked so I can always use that if it looks too bland.
Looking good Iain, I like the nut welded on the underside of the scuttle, nicely done :d
As for securing the other end I opted for a colour coded motorsport fastener lol

Couple of q's for you mate... 1. Could you get the part number off the breather hose that goes from dipstick to rocker cover if you get chance, as now mines on and all the slam etc on I can't see it without taking it off!
and B. Where did you get your CDS for the cage from? Might also want to borrow a door bar of yours to test fit and copy off as I never got door bars with my cage :(
Motorsport fastener lol I'll go out and see if that'll work now. Get the feeling it'll need to be a set distance from the slam with a bolt.
I'll see if I can find the hose in my bag of XE crap, I have a Roose silicone one to go on so don't know if I've got it.
CDS was got through a mate who got it from a kitcar place. I remember seeing some motorsport/rally place near Clifton somewhere but it was about £18 a metre.
You sure can borrow a doorbar, pop over and take them away with you if you want :)
Thanks Iain
Yea I Emailed Roose about the hose and it was £24 delivered, was just going to see what the price of a new GM one was in comparison, but I think the roose one will be stronger so prob the best bet.
Motorsport place near Clifton?? where!?!?
Oh my bad it's 'North Clifton' in Newark-Upon-Trent. lol £18 a metre is a bit steep though.

Oh lol was going to say, on my doorstep and never heard of it!!!
Have you tried custom cages? Can't be too far from you?
Ian I've just tried one of those new fangled motorsport cable tie fasteners and it works spot on  One job down.
How rude of me! Forgot to say good work as always! Engine looks great - seems a shame to put it into a car! lol
I've only got my motor fixed wit one bracket, albeit very hefty! Hope it holds up. I like the tack the nut to the scuttle idea tho.
Think I remember yours, you used that massive thick metal box section? Well now mine's held in with 2 bolts and a cable tie and it doesn't move anywhere without taking the scuttle with it. :)
Good good :d Motorsport fastener is lighter than a nut and bolt too!! lol lol
Tut tut lionel - using three fixings when two is perfectly good enough.... think of all that extra weight....
Lol this made me chuckleQuote:

Comming along, get that bay painted. Would think the wiper motor in in there well enough with 2 bolts, mine only had 1 and looked ok.
Engine looks good.
Got my new cams through the post thanks to a MIG user. Quite good condition with minimal wear marks and no scoring:

Lifters in with plenty of assembly lube:

Small amount of sealant around the end caps to stop any oil leaks:

Cams in and pulleys torqued up:

Trial fitted the inlet, the fricking thing is huge, tempted to bin it for something else

New GM pulleys, tensioners and belt to go on:

Just need to go get my silicone beather and fit the rocker baffle and the cover can go on and I can get it timed up. Not sure whether to do the breather mod or not too?
Do the breather mod if your taking it on track..
As for the inlet stop moaning, get it in the car and then worry later..lol
Followed Adams guide and the SBD guide to cut down the plate in the rocker for the 'breather mod':

It always makes me think Eh!.. every time i see how little is left after it's been "modded" lol
It does seem odd throwing away 9/10ths of it but oh well, less to clean so win win lol
Probs sick of seeing it, but the engine is pretty much finished now. Shiny stainless rocker bolts, inlet manifold and powercap on, most silicone hoses temporarily on etc

Also tried my new stonechip on my old motor, 3M 08878 white anti-chip paint. Went on really nice and textured with my new Schutz gun. Just waiting to hear back from 3M if I'm okay to not topcoat it cos it's a really nice glossy white already:

i cant believe you've still got that old shell lmao
Engines looking so factory fresh (minus the racing red block lol)
Now get that engine in!!! :thumb:
Dizzy cap fail, paint it red to match the block dude. Engine looks sexy.
Was thinking the same or fit a black one.Quote:

Yeah yeah, satin black would look cool too.
Ian, can I have a bit of your old shell please?
Thought you got rid of that old shell!
Keep meaning to chop it up but it's come in quite useful at times.
Dizzycap will be replaced as it's just the one that came with the engine at the mo - hopefully a new red one will be brighter.
Paul I've PMd you :)
Paint it.
Under arches now in stonechip :)

Just need to spray a bit of primer and brush on some 2pack glacier white.
Can i ask why are you not doing behind the "splash guard"
Didn't think there'd be any stones hitting there - will paint over that area when I do the rest of the arches.
Ok cool, i was thinking more to just protect it.
OK who's sick of me waffling about stonechip/underside? lol Me too, so cracked on today sorting it out once and for all
Tipped it over on it's side again:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/965.JPG
Loads of tyres to spread the weight:
http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/966.JPG
Chipped all the Hammerite off the top, the stuff flaked off with literally a brush of a screwdriver so would NEVER have lasted on the road. White stuff left on is the tinned stonechip I used - proper crap compared to the proper compressor stuff TBH:

http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/NovaWIP2/968.JPG
Coated in POR15 paint - bit of a waste cos it's really meant for bare metal but hopefully it'll dry to leave a good protective coating anyway (if not I'll strip it off again lollollol):

so thats what the black was on your hands :p
