Nice work.
I'm still not convinced by bike carbs vs throttle bodies (with a good proper management like DTA or MoTeC). There are soooo many things that carbs are good for (simplicity) but injection is ever so much better for putting the right amount of fuel in at the right time, producing far better driveability, with the benefit of improved economy over carbs.
But hey, it looks impressive, and I'm sure it sounds good too.
I'm impressed by how good the megajolt is, the first time I heard of one, I thought what a good idea. Something that someone could build themselves cutting the cost. Or buy a fully built one.
Now then! That fan. Put it back behind the rad and set it to suck, not blow. Why? It's interfering with your airflow. On my V8 nutter Belmont I had a pair of those fans in front of the rad, and it used to get pretty hot. Removing them from the front, and putting only ONE behind made a hell of a difference. It runs a lot cooler, and it a happy bunny! One behind is plenty to cool it down.
Moving on - that tube manifold. Is that a 4-into-1 job, where all 4 are side-by-side - if so, skip it. The factory cast manifold will result in more power! In fact, the best "ordinary" manifold setup is the 1300 cast job, fully port matched, both to the head and the downpipes (genuine factory ones, now TI Bainbridge crap) and tidy those too, to improve flow. The only manifold I found to be an improvement over that is one of Mr Joe Ellis' BTB jobbies. I found TWO horsepower over the cast/tube setup, compared to losing EIGHT with the 4-1 inline jobby.
The most efficient system is also the BTB system. It sounds nice too.
I see you've beefed up one of the engine mounts. You really need to do all three, or the engine will pitch in the bay and break the gearbox mounts quickly.
In over ten years of circuit racing a Nova I never ever broke an engine mount, and only ran standard rubber mounts. I did toy with putting something stiffer in there, but couldn't see any benefit as I didn't have any problems.
I only ever broke one CV, and that was due to a spin at Donington and a trip sideways over a kerb from the wrong side (where it wasn't tapered and slopy!)
Diff Ratio - I found greater accelleration with a 3.94:1 diff than a 4.18, and that was with a Quaife 5 speed box. Laptimes were better with the taller diff. I used to run a 4.53:1 at Lydden, but lapped faster with the 4.18. The 3.94:1 was better on Brands Indy than the 4.18 - which was touch and go at running out of revs! I was looking for a 3.74:1 for use at Thruxton.

Can i ask the difference in lap times around lydden with the 2 diffs i ran a 4.1 there and would be interested to know the benefits of the longer diff
Forgot to say i know someone with a new btb manifold spk to Tom:thumb:
I ran the shorter diff around Lydden - in the 1300 I ran a 4.53, which meant I was using the first four gears (with the quaife box). In the 1600 I ran the 4.18, and use the same. I tried the 4.53 with the 1600, but found 1st too short at the top of Hairy Hill, so was using 2nd to 4th, but screaming it's nuts off coming into the Elbow. It was about .2s slower with the shorter diff.Quote:

Looking good Al... When you next down? You'll have to take the Nova on a bedding in rung ;)
You were using 1st at hairy hill i only used 2nd allways managed to keep the car on cam ,i didnt seem to lose much time to the other similar cars there,i would be interested to see your lap times ,were you on slicks.Quote:

Yep, sorry about the hijack!! What spec engine/car and what series?
I was running mine on road tyres in BRSCC Super Road Saloons. Kent AST9 cam on throttle body injection = very driveable.
No problems on the kijack - its all interesting stuff!
Mainly the choice of what has/hasnt been done to the car is down to the fact it's a learning-curve budget road toy.
Eg the carbs and mj has cost me well under half of what throttle bodies would have done and is something that I was comfortable installing and learning how to map. Ditto with the exhaust etc, I have been offered a btb but was unsure if it would be overkill for the spec of the engine?
With the diff and 4.1 - basically it's an experiment, I'll see how it goes, same with the cam, it had a kent ast11 but will now have a 290 so will see how that affects it.
At the end of the day if any mods don't work they can always go back - or try something else - for me it's as much about the trying and seeing as the end result if that makes sense.
I run a nova on slicks with 1400 ,a kent ast18r i think its the supersports cam 1 down from race on 45,s still on dissy:thumb: only raced once at lydden in the dmnQuote:
