Cars going off for a week to be welded and have the cage put in tomorrow, and then its time to slap some paint on!

yep, certainly am! Ive also got some side bars from my previous shell which will be perfect for running through the bulkhead to attach to the front turrets.
Cool, might be worth making some plates and welding the cage to the A and B pillars for uber strength and stiffness.Quote:

I may be being a bit dim-witted / blind. But isn't that cage already welded together? If so how the fookin hell are you gonna get it in? Chop thr roof off? :wtf:
lol, no, its connected by two telescopic tube fitments just in front of the main hoop.

To those who aren't aware that the Alternator fouls the drivers side chassis leg (do you people still exist? LMAO) there are two ways of solving this problem. You can either attack it with a big hammer, which is probably the most popular option... OR you can cut and box section it which means you dont weaken anything (even adds some strength). After discussions with Dar, I decided the second route was better.
Lee Pursey has done a pukka job with it as you can see....

Don't know if its too late but I'd make the alternator cut out a little longer. I did mine like below and it gives you just a little but more room to reach in and adjust it and to remove the belt easier!

Cheers pal. We have actually looked at making it a tad longer at the top. Ive never had to make room for the bottom pulley though, but thats definately a consideration.

While waiting for the welding to be finished off, i decided to wield my degreaser and paintbrush, and start to freshen up some bits and bobs. First to get attacked was the engine and box, and I even managed to polish up my rocker cover after about 2 years of neglect!

Then, while i had the brush covered in green, i freshened up the Servo as well. The Hammerite green makes a cool effect, it looks better than my camera can manage to show.

Then i did the brakes (which i had been putting off due to one of them being completely covered in CV grease from a ruptured boot which id ignored for the last 2 events!)

The cage offered up a bit of an oddity, whereas one of the rear drops to the arch wouldn't quite reach! Instead of having to send the whole thing back and waiting god knows how long for a replacememnt, we decided to box section out to meet it.

Call me a dunce but whats special about red oxide paint - seen a few people use it, any particular reason over something like hammerite for example?
Normal primer is actually porus which lets moisture in, whereas red oxide primer has anti corrosion properties and isnt porus. As for Hammerite, its not an ideal basecoat lol
Makes you wonder why i didnt use it on the floorpan after i removed the sound deadening doesnt it?
Its because i didnt have any at the time lol
red-oxide isint as good as it use to be so im told (dad) it has less oxide in (cheaper to produce) like you said bottlethroddy its still a good base coat!!!
