Finished off all the welding on the inside of the car today. Also got the strut brace welded in and the boot floor riveted in :)
Pics to follow tomorrow.

I want to bolt the harnesses to the rear strut brace. Can anyone shed some light on the nut size for standard seatbelt mounting bolts are ? Also where should i mount the harness straps in the front !?!

seatbelt bolts are 17mm ;) or do you mean the thread size/pitch?

Here is some of the work i got done last night and today. I want to weld to nuts into the rear strut brace to bolt the rear of the harnesses to, anyone know what size, pitch the nuts i need are ?

Now the floor is rivited and glued in, it is well ridgid, well surports a good 15 odd stone anyway !

Well i have moved to the out side of the car now and guess what, more welding. Giving the car a big hit this week, may get some paint on the engine bay and inside at the weekend hopefully !

Forgot to mention that the arch and inner have been sikaflexed together.

why not just bolt your harness to the floor in the boot like below, its a damn site easier then welding bolts to strut braces, and looks loads better imho

what harnesses are you using? as you could do with proper motorsport harnesses where you have to use the mounting eyes to clip them to (just look like a mini towing eye)

as in the "clip in" aircraft style harnesses

Im using 3 point sparco harness's. I really like the look when the harness comes off the rear strut brace, plus im incline to keep the belt central to the bucket seat to stop twist in an accident.

you'll do more damage to yourself by bodge so to speak fitting your harnesses to the rear strut brace (welded in or not) ONLY fit harnesses to a proper rear harness bar when the harnesses HAVE GOT the proper loop in the end of them or those funny little straps, almost like ratchet straps but not ;)

And that is speaking from experience of building, test driving and yes also crashing rally cars ;) (mostly peugeots tho lol)

by harness bar i mean this, the first part of the cage that those harnesses touch, uo would then loop the harnesses round it, tigthen them up and hey presto (that a proper 8 point cage btw ;))

I see what your saying mate, but i want to avoid the belt coming off at an angle like this pic

Im no expert, this setup might be perfectly fine, but the belt is not central which makes me think it will turn your body in an accident. Im 100% certain the strut bace will hold in any kind of accident, in fact i would go as far to say that i would hang the whole car from it.

its not the strut brace you have to worry about ;) its the steel its attached to ;)

the angle of my harnesses in that pic have never caused me any issues lol, there FIA & ECC approved and designed to be fitted like that, so there is literally nothing to worry about lol

the car they came out of (my old SR) i had a rather hefty front impact and they didnt throw me sideways or anything so i trust them ;)

OK, point taken. I will fit them to the original points. Still think they would look better on the brace tho !

they would ill admit, but its getting them on there SAFELY thats the pain/issue

not putting your idea/s down, but do you think that at 30mph a welded on nut would retain your bodyweight x3 from going through the dashboards/windscreen? :wtf:

I know what option id prefer :thumb:

Best bet is having the belts the shortest distance, had a talk with a scrutineer and they advise a short gap due to the fact in an accident the belt has less chance of stretching which will cause possible injury.
but to be fair your set up looks solid and the belts look top notch.
Amazing preparing work always interested in this thread. Keep up the great standard!

Damn right i would. Wouldnt be much of a welder if i didnt !!!!

Still think i will go for the normal points due to MOT and other stuff like insurance :wtf:

oh yeah ashtal, couldnt do me a favour an post up a pic of the underside of your now removed spare wheel well? Mine will be coming out soon (if i keep the car lol) so im just wondering how you've supported/brace the rear floor like?

The floor is from the alloy froor from a landrover, cunningly cut around some braces !

Any ideas where i should put the battery !?!

I got this battery box and i now cant put it in place of the rear seat, due to it getting in the way of the harness's. If it sits behind th rear strut brace, will that be to from from the starter ? The battery im using is an 067, its quite a beasty.

Stick it right at the back mate, against the rear panel, Its a good way to compensate for the heavy valver up front.

LOL, its a nasty colour at the mo. WIll get a lick of paint soon. Not sure what comps it will do, anything it can enter really !

Started the other side arch tonight, made some good progress, it shouldnt need an inner making up like the other side did. I will get some pics tomorrow as i have the day off to work on the beast. There might even be a bit of paint on saturday ;)

Right , got the other side wheel arch done and a skim of filler in. The fuel filler hole warpped the qtr well bad, was getting inpatient !

The the car was all sealed up. I did want to keep the welds exposed, but i want the car to last for years to come so i sealed it to protect agains rot. I never thought it would take this much hard work to get the car to this point !
