You've got no idea how glad I am to see this coming together and that you're getting the original engine back!
Just wish I had known in advance what Vaughan was really like and could've sold it to you in the first place! If you need carbs, airbox, gearbox and stickers give me a shout, have a spare set :)
Will let you know if I come across anything else you might need
What do you mean what I was really like ? Cracking progress Greg, your plans sound top notch for this Sport
That's abit harsh !!Quote:

How come you didn't do all this to it then? Don't look as bad as I first thought.
You would of had a genuine sport with a bit of work.
I can't weld and it meant relying on someone else to weld it for me which isn't really a sound idea as it is a lot of work but if I could weld and had my own welder I'd maybe have had a bash at it
At the end of the day it's still going to live on - Could well have been crushed!
Ahh fair point, I can't weld either so I know what a pain it is getting someone esle to do it.
Couldn't you let Greg have some of the rare sport parts tho just to keep it all together ?
Or has he got sport interior etc?
He's buying the engine from me for a good price
I'm keeping the interior for my Mk1 but if I do come to sell it he can have 1st dibs on it so it can go back with the Sport but I didn't see the point in me selling the interior I like and the 40's I've always wanted to buy more
Kinda pointless like...
good progress chum....:thumb::thumb:
Fair point chap, I would have done the same.
Hardcore Sporters will probably disagree tho ! lol lol lol
Oh they do mate lol They do!
I know what they mean about the engine numbers etc but for all anyone knows the interior and 40's might not even be the originals to that car anyway...
Greg just realised that it was you who built the lovely black gsi rep,
And the hard work that went into it
So this reassures me that this sport built is going to be a cracker.
Will be following this :thumb:
wow did u really line the back panel up with no boot on it ? you rare personQuote:

just need to do a few more spot welds, will only take 10mins..
sills and arches are next on the cards i think..
cant decide if i should stitch weld the bay or not????? help?
Good progress mate :)
Keep up the good work Il keep an eye on this project :)
Good work Greg your not hanging about with it, wish i had your enthusasim(sp)
stick weld the engine bay but do it from inside the wheel arches so it doesnt spoil the seems on the bay, that way its hidden and keeps the original look of the car
good thinking..
i love looking in the bonnet of a nova and seeing stitch welds but i wanted to try keep the sport bay looking original..
Why bother stitch welding if it's just gonna be the 1.3? The shell will be perfectly solid once you've finished with it and I'm sure it'll be able to handle the 1.3 POWER.
Progress looks good anyway fella!
it should take the 1.3 no problem.. was just thinking to add strenght and for handling?
i dont plan on building this car just to look good! i want it round some tracks etc!
stitch weld gets my vote,
if you intend on using it properly :thumb:
Ahh, fair play if your gonna be giving it some stick around track. In that case strengthening the shell up a bit is a good idea. I like Novacabrio's idea of stitch welding from underneath to maintain an original looking bay.Quote:

Early SR interior is pretty much the same as the Sport interior - Saves me money buying another interior mate :)
But you will put the none splitting kind into a car with spitting brackets and possibly make the Sports new owner(Sorry for spamming a great thread dude) do visa versa
Nahh my Mk1 came with a single bench originally so it should go straight in - Greg has 1st dibs of the Sport interior if I come to sell it and he doesn't have one at the time
Love the way this has come along, progress is good Greg, Keep it up
looking great mate, nice to see the enthuiasm so quick :)
Keep up the good work pal!
Top progress Greg, keep on it mate, looks real good.
Scott
this is cuming together really quick good progress
Rapid progress !!
Have you a date in mind to get it painted ?
making nice progress. Will be good to see it rebuilt and back on the road.
Jamie
cheers!
erm, not got a date sorted for paint etc..although i have been speaking to a local bodyshop and they are getting back to me on how much it will be.
not wanting to rush things, just going to dodge away with it so i dont get sick of it unlike my other nova when i was building that!
i think the reason i got sick and pissed off with the last nova was because i was rushing to get it finished for my 17th birthday!
anyway, got a few more pics..
