cans - sprayed the slam panel and it came out really well.
The best thing about white paint is its very forgiving - it doesnt show up faults at all.

Saturday and Sunday 05 and 06 July 2008
This weekend I are mostly be fitting my new upper slam panel.
The current ones "okay" but the drivers wing is buggered and the corner drain plug on the inner arches is rotten so needs sorting.
Started by removing all ancilliaries -

Heres the main damage -

Found and drilled out all spot welds using a spot weld drill bit
Removed old panel -

Stripped bits off old panel (vin plates, boot clip and mounting clips)

Made a card template and cut all the old rust off the inner wings behind where the panel sits - both sides were in poor shape but the drivers was worst -

welded it up (both sides) and ground back -

Did the other side to match and then acid etched both panels and other exposed metal -

Test fitted the new panel-

Realised I shouldnt have bothered spraying the areas to be welded because the pain just caught fire! Anyway - drilled holes to plug weld through, lined up and clamped in place -

Panel welded in place awaiting clean up -

Drivers side welds ground back awaiting more etch primer and sealed before final primer and paint (again!). passengers to do Monday (got too late to grind)...

looks top work mate:thumb:
Looking good mate
Will be awsome once its all done :)
cheers. This is fairly straight forward - the bit I'm worried about is the rear arches - both sides need doing and the drivers side has to get some soon because the corners missing. The rain we're havong isnt helping matters.
I'm off Thursday to Monday inclusive so "hopefully" weather permitting I'll get it done. Just wish I had a double garage to move around in...

Spent most of this evening grinding back the welds, etch priming and then applying a nice thick payer of sealant all round the new panel edges. Once that's cured I'll prime it, flat it back and then give it a final top coat.
Nice work Ade :)
Will you be doing the arches yourself too?
Good work mate - Cracking progress
Will this turn into your daily drive ?
