Had chance to check things out more thoroughly and its not good news.
Although the bore in the affected cylinder is OK the cylinder next to it has a bad score in it. It looks as though one of the rings may have picked up a bit.:(
So it looks like I wont be putting the bottom end together again since its not really worth it after all thats happened.
I've made the decision to get another block and try and salvage as much as possible. I'm prolly gonna get a 1.6 block this time since whilst I've always been happy with the power from the 1.4 when its up on cam, it was defo short of torque out of slower corners which was becoming annoying esp at my local circuit Rockingham
I'm thinking of aiming for a solid reliable 180 -200hp without any silly revs (circa 8k) and some better valves this time!:tard: I'm not at all convinced that much more than 180 hp is needed anyway esp if you take into consideration the extra strain it will put on the drive train.
In the meantime I have some plans for the gear linkage, for the trackrod ends, for the lower TCA and tie bar arrangement and the front turret tops. I also hope to stitch weld out the shell which is getting a bit tired.
