it is physically impossible for a ciggy to ignite petrol, the flash point is higher than tobacco burns at... blame the movies for the errorQuote:

you can also drop a match in liquid petrol and it wont (shouldnt) light :)
the best arson device was a lit cigarette held vertically, with a load of matches taped round it, in a small plastic container with some petrol in, with some paper to hold it all in...... there will be no forensic evidence left, the container will melt because of the petrol, leaving a pool of accelerant, and when the cigarette lights the matches, it goes up really quick......
of course the smoking ban has made this device a bit redundant... as you will get caught just by the smoke.....
But the vapours on top will surely? petrol definitely goes up nicely when you drop a lit match on it, my aunt nearly lost her eyebrows with sketchy bonfire antics lolQuote:

In regards to lighting petrol with a match... I lit the fire in my living room about an hour ago, wouldn't catch so I splashed a little petrol on the logs and they lit up first time with a match.
Unless if something absorbs petrol it ignites differently?
So in a theoretical perfect environment it doesn't go up but for any practical applications you lose your eyebrows lolQuote:
