My old a-reg with a nova gte engine left one for dead between roundabouts, he kept trying but didnt get anywhere near me!! lol Im sure a 1.4 wont be too far off it.
I remember back in the days of my standard SRi, it kept with from a start and gradulaly inched out a 2 car lead over a couple of ZR105 up to about 70 (Cough90) ish.

K series engines are pretty good to be fair, once they have had the upgraded HG fitted. They produce a fair bit of torque and can easily have parts stolen from the K series range :D IE Throttle body and inlets etc.
