as someone who's married to someone in HR I suggest you read your code of conduct and acceptable use of technology policy (or whatever you call it).
If the words "constitutes gross misconduct" are mentioned you may as well join an agency and start looking for another job.
How long you been there?
For any HR meeting you should be able to bring someone along as "moral support". I dont recommend your lawyer though. For all the crap they cause/talk, being in the Union at times like these is really handy - they will represent you, they know every loop hole and get out clause known to man!
Depending on your use of technology policy you'll either get a verbal warning, 1st written warnong or final written warning. they usually stay on your record for 6-12 months. Gross misconduct = dismissal.
Sounds heavy but "big" companies have to follow a set structure so all employees are treated the same - they'll probably adjourn half way though to consider the outcome and compare your actions against similar cases theyve dealt with.
During the hearing you'll be asked to explain why you spent some much time using company computers for private use. They'll try and catch you out so be careful what you say - for example - you say you surfed the net because you'd finished all your work ahead of schedule and were bored - they'll say why didnt you ask for more work help colleagues etc?
Think about how you can counter these without being a c0cky barsteward.
My advice - hold your hands up and take it like a man. Be honest, dont bullsh1t because they'll catch you out. Apologise and say you were stupid and didnt appreciate how long you were surfing and you were "caught up in the moment". And if you access the 18+ section whilst at work...just get your coat...
