When I helped 16XE a mates Corsa we picked the front end of his car up and lifted it over the engine. Strange method I thought but it worked lol

car up on a car lift, the bosch workmate (i love that thing, it's like 10 years old, and did over 15 swaps en still standing lol although it really bends with a XE (with gearbox) on it) under the engine, undo the bolts, and lift the car further up.
also works for removing full pertrol tanks.

lol, liam you must live in a nice part of town. At least it was til you rocked up, lol;)
Board with some casters on the bottom, put a jack under that and rise till it meets the engine, take the weight, un-bolt, lower jack so the engines weight is on the casters then just pick the car up enough to pull the engine out under the front.

Unbolt engine onto trolly jack, the yank the jack out letting the engine hit the floor, and because i can, i lift the shell over the engine :D
Or do it the gimp way, hook engine to crane, unbolt engine, lower engine to floor, lift shell with crane...
