looks tidy and am i thinking of learning to paint as i love the transformation.

Excellent update, i cant help but think how much more fun this car would be with no spoiler on, no snow plow, just a standard early bumper and smaller intercooler and badges up as a 1.2 merit or similar would make a nice subtle car with a tastey engine. There is a guy up here with a .mk3 escort done similar in original colour and 1.3GL badges but with cosworth running gear in it.
The Gold is lush. Is it the old Vauxhall shade?
WOW paint!!! how did i miss that.. looks really good tek! I thought you had to change the n/s gearbox mount on the lets? i bet you cant wait to start rebuilding now. mine will be having a full resapray also once ive had chance to enjoy it for a while:)
