Bloody hell Nick! some works gone on since i last checked, had no idea you were going this far!..
Wish you could have done my mk1 for me, lol i would never of been able to afford the coast though.
Scott
awesome nick! really is stunning , even more so since you ve stamped your mark on it!:thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thum b::thumb::thumb::thumb:
Awesome work Nick, I'm highly impressed!!
Im afraid you and Mark will have to live with it!! Although my attention to detail is always keen I have bigger fish to fry at the moment! Painted screws that are not seen 90% of the time are not high on my priority list at the moment ;)Quote:

Cheers Keith,Gary,Andy,Scott and all for comments! More to come soon as I imagine it will be finished soon enough.
Nick.
This is the reason why i sold it to you Nick. knew it would be in the best hands, i would have never had the time/body work skill to do it.
Thanks Shaun, I was looking at it tonight just before leaving work....... It is going to be one cracker of a car, Your time and effort mechanically and mine body and detail wise will make for an excellent example I feel. Who knows I may let you buy it back one day as I know it would be safe in your hands.
Nick.
nice nick another awsome car in the making
Impressive stuff so far Nick - I wish my progress was as fast as yours :)
Have you trial fitted your new doors yet - Even though they are brand new - Vauxhall tollerances back in the day were not quite upto todays standards
When I fitted my new doors to my project - it took a bit of 'tweeking' around the window frame and hinges to get a perfect fit
Dave
Thanks Dave, I know what your saying regarding fitment.... Todays tolerances across the board are still not the best! Im unsure if my panel guy has had them on yet but he was a time served vauxhall guy once upon a time and knows his novas very well ( we even have a proper vauxhall hinge tweaking tool!) so Im sure the end result will be the right one.Quote:

Great work Nick!
looking smart Nick :thumb:
Thanks guys! :)
Update time it is then......... Friday eves after work saw the front end parts and windscreen removed in preparation for the weekend paint session. Once certain areas had been cleaned up/ degreased the car went into the booth and some stands went under the rear end and the wheels came off. This was so I could get right in under the inside of the wheel arches to paint them etc. Also I thought it would be a good time to paint the inside of the rear too. My camera battery died unfortunatly but after another late night here's how it looked the following day after Id bolted a few bits back on............
Rear arches.......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1269192035
And the rear of the car (much easier this time with no seats or cage to get in the way like I did in the red one!)......

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1269192148
With them bits out of the way I cracked on saturday cleaning and preparing the car for its exterior paint. Before long into the booth it went.........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1269192352
The final bits of masking was then done (everything has been backmasked so there will be no masking edges/lines anywhere at all).....

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1269192480
Then after a good cleaning/tacking and stat gun session I primed any small rub throughs and used a yellow surfacer wet on wet primer for the large areas that wanted to be yellow. This was followed by uber amounts of mustard yellow and two coats of clear. Here's the results.........

Hmmmmm fresh paint!
I didn't think you needed to put clear coat onto non-metalic colours? Or is it just to make the colour deeper or something? (I know now about paint so idiot explanation please! lol)
yum!! looking good
edible
It came out very well and very clean which is always a bonus! I left it to air dry rather than baking as it lets the clear flow more and the finish wont nip up. Today I went back in to work and demasked it then rolled it out of the booth and bagged up the inside and engine bay ready to flat and polish it. This can be messy hence the precautions!...........

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k2...g?t=1269193980
After a good few hours with the polisher the paintwork is absolutely gleaming. This finish it excellent and its totally imperfection free leaving it looking like this........

With the polishing complete for now I bolted the wings, bumper, grill, seat and a few other parts back on so they arent kicking about when were all back in work tommorow etc. Today finished with the car looking like this......

Not bad going to say we only started last friday! This week should see doors, tailgate painted and on the car with a bit of luck. cheers for reading.
Nick.
stunning Nick
Gonna be concours :thumb:
Your thinking of old school solid colour fella..... Thats rarely used by most manufacturers nowadays. Base and clear has a better longivity and is more durable. In short this will be shining for years to come with or without polish ;)Quote:

As i said in the text. It looks totally stunning! Fantastic work on the paint.
Surprised you didn't paint the grey at the same time like you did with the wing..
Banana milkshake! That looks amazing mate.
i wish i could work this fast and have this amount of quality!
looks amazing nick :thumb:
I want the doors on for the grey........ The I can make sure the line is uber stright across the door, quarter and wing etc. Even though the lines covered by the mouldings I want it to be right. ;)Quote:

Excellent Nick...
I'm sooo tempted to get my inner arches to that state too!
One thing, is it the photo or the angle, but the grey line looks off level? It'll be covered anyway i'm sure!
The wings are all over the place at the mo and only held on by two bolts up top Si once the bottom one is in it will put the wing back down etc. Thats whats giving that appearance of it being slightly off I think. Trust me its bang on! ;)Quote:
