Looking good dude!
A chemical treatment will never truly reverse one structure into another, however in my experience of sheet metalwork; vactan has the ability to react with bare metal better than any other initial treatment for the long term inhibition of corrosion. More so than even red oxide; which is why I suggest these chemicals in that order so that you do it once and never look back.
Fiberglass can be fine, but you're never really going to know until it's too late. Always gonna come down to how much prep time you invest in the fit & flattening prior to paint.
In a way though it is always a shame when the months roll by in a winter lockup and pristine metal reacts with the ambient moisture. No wonder builds in the states etc never have the same ballache.
Nice to see you’ve got this home at long last, you’ll have loads of fun I suspect getting all the expensive bits on now. What timescale have you set yourself on finishing it lol
Ta, hopefully get the front end tried on in the coming weeks. Away on holiday as of next week.
Thanks mate
Thanks for the info! I'll see how it goes with the fibreglass ones, I've got 2 sets incase something goes wrong haha got a set of steel ones too just incase. Yeah it's a pity but easily sorted out I guess.
Aye finally eh haha yeah should be fun, as long as the parts fit...lol.
Not really got a timescale tbh, I'd like to say asap but getting married next year so I've got that to save for. Can't see the nova being allowed to be at the front of the queue haha
Here's the fibreglass ones.

Looks great mate :thumb: keep up the good work!
Hey those look great can I order a pair?
cheers bud :)
Pretty happy with them. Just hope they fit well. He no longer makes them mate. They were from Chris
managed to get a few hours on the car today, got most of the bare metal cleaned down, just the tubs and turrets to do!

Liking the look of this some nice clean looking fab work gone in there , have you done this yourself?
Thanks mate, it's a pity most of my pics don't work anymore, there's a fair bit went into it. Unfortunately not it was at a shop being done, was actually there getting a new front end on it and it spiralled out of control a bit... lol

Haha , yeah I know what your saying
Same issue on my thread no pics showing anymore , yours looks quite similar to the way I've done mine have you kept the calibra rear end?
Nah bud, we set it up using a cav floor pan to start with and the heavy rear beam was just a no no so it's all custom arms etc now.

Ah I've kept all the original arms etc but looking to just use the cradle they bolt to and make up a set of adjustable ones like I have on the front , yours looks a nice setup to be fair love seeing fresh fab work
Aye something a bit different and all rose jointed too so fully adjustable which is a boost.
Dicked about earlier with the quarters. Fit doesn't seem bad at all. Not sure how I'll get it smoothed into the metal though

You kept it all standard nova width?
Aye, I wanted it to look like a standard nova :)
Thats good you got the car home. Keep up the good work Baz:thumb:
I've gone other way and made it look as GROUP B as possible
Arches are either left with a bead of sealer on the join, or smoothed in...

Put vactan on all the bare metal except the inner quarters and outer tubs. Got a wee bit of fab work to do there yet which I'm hoping to do in the coming weeks. Back on dayshift next week so I'll have much more time to myself.

Surprised none of it's turned black after curing; tbh not the best time of year to start finishing but Vactan is the best direct to metal - gonna do a red oxide next before primer?
It was black in quite a few areas, I decided to run off the scaly bits and smash it all with another coat haha
aye ill do red oxide too, want it all proper protected. Don't want to be doing all this again. Fine warm day for it today it's like 12 degrees so dried pretty quickly
Looking good ,
Hi mate, sorry I'm not selling them. I'm keeping a hold of all my gsi parts incase I decide to buy another shell
Here’s my attempt at skinning headlight blanks. Pretty happy with the results!

Got myself some adjustable trestles for the nova. Should be great for working under the car. That’s them at the lowest level 460mm they go up to 650mm.

Looks good, makes it so much easier working under the car when you can get it properly high.
Aye definitely mate
spent the day working on the nova, dropped all the old suspension stuff off and made a start fitting the rose joint bits. Few packers and bolts missing so couldn’t finish it.

Suppose I better add some pics on here. Got my engine home yesterday, tried on the manifold and turbo, set up my new engine crane and got it on the stand. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...85953fdb5f.jpg

Practically finished now
Looking good, nice arms too.
You have a engine hoist, why not just drop the engine in from above...
Cheers
good question Benn, I have a few answers for that. Number 1, still need to strip pulleys and the power steering pump off to get it to fit. Number 2, it’s sitting on the engine stand so I can work on it and number 3 the car is sitting on trestles 700mm off the ground so the crane will hit the garage roof before the engine is over the height of the car :thumb:
lol ah ok.
Glad this is slowly progressing now Bazz, when you do get this on the road though will petrol be banned lol
