Mk1 1600 8v, R1 bike carbs on megajolt...

OK, to recap for those at the back - the head had new guides, valve seats cut and been away for a skim....so time to rebuild it. :thumb:

I happily lapped the valves in and then vacuum tested them - and then found only 4 out of 8 were sealing properly :roll:..... so back out they came and after another 2 or 3 goes each theyre looking good - all hold decent figures.

Tryin to take pics with one hand while holding everythin else with the other wasnt working - i was struggling to hold the gauge on and pump up etc - but you get the idea:

Alan if you get this on the road by 8th August I'm arranging a meet at our usual haunt here. Yourself and any other Nova for that matter is more than welcome. If you still have your Cally come in that if the Nova isn't done. If the weather holds I'll be in my GTE :)

Just read though your diary and it looks like you've been having some fun with the Nova.

Does Tom Reid do head work as I have a couple of X30XE heads I want porting & polishing?

Have to agree mate - i do love astra gtes but yours is pretty damn special!

Should be able to make the meet mate - i would seriously hope the nova is done by then, if not i'll come down in the calibra but i cant guarantee it will get washed first lol

Tom does do head work mate - and if you want full on race prep he has some very good contacts too

It would be good to see the Nova there so fingers crossed it's done for the 8th August. I'll have to give Tom a buzz and have a chat, not after anything fancy just a clean and tidy up of the head and ports.

It will definately be done by then- should be done this week, it's the getting it in for an mot I might struggle with!

Finished the valves last night - after having to lap the last one in about 15 times before it came right - odd but true.

Cleaned up the cam box and took out the old cam ready for the bigger one and vernier. The head and cam box were painted with aluminium paint before but it looked sheet so im just leaving it bare this time - i might roughly polish it depending on how much time i get before it goes on.

Will get some pics later.

At least you didnt have 16valves to lap in lol
I am doing a full gasket change and de-coking the head on mine, and lapping the valves is the bit i am not looking forward to
