Just a tiny update on the loom, its 99% finished.
New "plug and play" plug, i'll wire the other half into the Nova loom so the engine loom can be just simply unpluged.

Lots of wires lengthened, especially the green plug which is the diagnostic plug. I'll mount this somewhere on the dash to find faults if needed.

I'm now trying to save hard to buy suspension, wheels, engine hoses and pay to sort the engine block. Hopefully things will move quickly in the new year.

For those who've never seen one, Its an EDS Tophat. Its basically a replica of the standard tophat casting, however its 50mm internal bore instead of the standard 40mm. It can be modifyed by cutting the front section by about 2" to make it 60mm. It also has an outlet to the rear for a dump valve, and the standard tophat "turbo" cover fits over, so its all hidden and standard looking.
Keith
Bout time you gave us an update, Looks very trick, Should help squeeze some extra air in which is all good!!
just looked at all 82 pages, hats of to you lad some build. nice to see its in Ireland to :D
Keith,
I have the same one as you, cut back to the 60mm point.

However due to the size of the lip :-
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15...a/Tophat2a.jpg
I would suggest you use a die grinder and smooth it off a bit :-
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15...a/Tophat3a.jpg
I also used a 60-50mm adapter pipe from Roose
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y15...nova/60mma.jpg
Keep up the good work
Joff
are you keeping it at 50mm, or are you going to cut it back for the 60mm size?
I'm going to check the boost pipes that Radtec made for me and see if they will stretch to 60mm, if they wont i'll keep it at 50mm until I change the pipe.
Keith
Oh, and cheer's joff! I want to use a Die Grinder on the inlet side too. Where's the best place to buy a Die Grinder?

Most of the stuff I got from machine mart or off ebay. I really only bought my compressor for the die grinder, but it has come in really useful for the air tool kit I got with it. The airgun is really handy for wheel nuts and getting suspension struts apart. The tyre gauge speaks for itself and the air gun was just genrally handy at cleaning of stuff.
Would recommend if you have the space. I didn't fancy the noise in the garage so put mine in a sound proofed box on the outside of the garage with the pipe and cable running through the wall. You can hardly hear it when on - just need to lift the lid when using for long periods so it doesn't overheat.
Joff
Yeah - I did the inlet as well - just take it off the turbo before you do it otherwise you'll get thousands of bits going into the turbo itself!Quote:

Thanks again Joff, much appreciated!
Keith
You can also buy a range of flap wheels to fit the die grinder to smooth off after die grinding out the excess. They are very useful to help maintain a smooth cylindrical shape without undulations.
argos sell cheap ones dont need a compressor setup like that although is the best option not essential as only soft alloy!
My powdercoated inlet arrived today, and I thought i'd build it together!
Now i've yet to get my Roose hose kit, and I have to send the injectors to get cleaned/flowed before I bolt everything down tight.

i dont know where your going with the grey powder coat keith, but IMHO it looks unfinished/primed
you wanna be careful the powdercoat on the inside doesnt come off too
other than that, keep up the good work mate
Are you going to clean the coating off the water unions? or leave it on?
I'm going to swap it over with the one from the other inlet.Quote:

Keith
personally i think acid/steam cleaning would have been sufficient bud
The first picture is it steam cleaned. IMO the new version looks better, even tho it wont be seen, it still looks alot cleaner and will be easier kept clean.
EDIT: It looks alot better in flesh, the flash from the camera mess's it all up, same with the colour of the car.
Keith
Coming on Keith :)
looking awsome keith keep up the good work:)
p.s do it your way:thumb:
Good work !
Throttle Body gasket looks like it could do with a lil' trim ;)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...7/100_3524.jpg
I've decided against the coated inlet now, mostly because i'm afraid the powdercoat thats flashed to the inside will flake off. Its not worth the risk tbh.
I've arranged for my other inlet to get bead blast cleaned instead.
Keith
Wise decision IMO.
Your right Adam ;)
good choice keith!
i only said it cos i know you have spent alot of time/money on it and for it to be ruined by the PC coming off in ti the engine would be a sickener.
itd be as sickening as a trumpet clip going down the inlet, if you know what i mean!
I know mate, i'm glad people can be honest, and I always try to post these things up as i'm not a Genius and need help sometimes with decisions etc.Quote:

i rarely post comments about peoples choices, but i thought something needed to be said, just incase you had overlooked it
