cheers for comments! dunno about stripe, not normally a fan of red on GSi's but it would tie in with the brakes and lights, think i'll go for black or dark grey. also, dunno about the cambelt & rocker covers, was all for white but now i'm also thinking diamond black, dark grey or red?

cheers for comments!
long story but basically set off for mot last saturday and was a bit sluggish pulling away (i hadn't driven it beyond my drive/garage for fear of getting caught with no mot or tax) but thought it was either the new clutch needing a little bedding in or i had 3rd where 1st should be. anyway, having been certain the gears were set correctly i put it down to dodgy clutch, nursed it home and parked in the garage in disgust and left it till around tuesday. while off on the 'pat n mick' i got bored and started fitting a new clutch thanks to c7lin (of 4x4 cossie nova fame). the clutch was fine friction plate-wise bar a few battle scars from trying to drive it which ultimately knackered the plastic ring around the spline. so it was something else, turns out the lightened flywheel was to blame, had been done wrong but sourced soon after thanks to fjc and set about fitting it, didn't realise i would be able to pop it out the access hatch so that was a bit of a brucie bonus! then i noticed i'd been given the wrong clutch kit! turns out the pot type had found its way into a flat type box so couldn't finish it til the next day. got the correct one yesterday evening and set about fitting it, eveything went fine til i tried to drive it, no gears and clutch cable was slack as fook! wound it right back and managed to get 1st -5th but no reverse! and the lever had too much play which meant it was probably release bearing related although i had replaced it when doing the first clutch and looked fine when doing the clutch earlier. so the bastid had to come apart again, was absolutely raging and almost found myself writing an 'unfinished project for sale' thread.
anyway two mates said they'd come along and have a look today as i was back at work today and initially couldn't see anything wrong even after comparing the two release bearings, anyway they refitted it and it was fine so feck knows what caused it, perhaps i dis-lodged it when changing the clutch?
anyway i arrived home with the car done and this time i just drove it along the street and was fine so its parked up til saturday!
thanks to turbodrew1 & daz along with C7LIN for tools and advice!
