yeah hopefully but it would be a pretty boring wip as it will only be done in little drips and drabs!lol.still undecided on my engine spec though:tard: (thinking of that i dont even know what engine i want!lol.too many ideas running round my head and too much of a nagging gf!lol.
gf:"adam we need to start saving up for a house"
me:"**** the house what about the nova!?"
then the phone went dead:tard:
-
Ditch the girlfriend, sleep with the Nova, much more interesting and won't answer you back
-
Cool project mate.
Any more updates? :thumb:

Havnt posted any pics for a while. Camera's been broken. Nearly finished the engine. Thinking about going for a dry sump setup now:D . Pleny more weight saving going on. But thats a secret :) (and a litle bit nutty). Will try and get some pics up soon.
-
Not much of an update. Car was taken down to my mates bodyshop last week to have the shell finished. EVERY pannel is being removed and replaced with carbon and the cage is getting finished (semi space frame) a hoop is being made to hang the engine from along with tie bars. The rear is getting and independant setup fabricated. Going to look similar to the golf in the pics below. Will get some wics up when work commences.
Ive nearly finished the engine just waiting for the dry sump to come from martyn bowyer. Need to order my diff so i can get the box finished.

-
Cheers, its definatley going to be a one off. Never going to sell. Promise to get some pics up when work starts.
-
Nice read, going to be one feather weighted beast
That golf looks insane  who`s is it? is there a build thread anywhere?
-
Yea do so! And i know what it's like doing big projects like yours and you get to a point where you think even if you did want to sell it you just couldnt. The amount of hours and money you put into them it would never be worth it
-
Dont know who's golf it is. Saw it at one of the shows about 3/4 years ago. Found his WIP on the net here: http://www.coupehaus.co.uk/richardT_project.html

Not much of an update. Had a quiet half hour last night at work so decided to make a start on modding my cam cover for the dry sump system
Started like this:
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...d/Image006.jpg
Removed the plate with the breather on from the underside of the cover by drilling the rivets:
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...d/Image009.jpg
Removed this with the angle grinder (going to use this piece as a test piece for welding not sure what it will weld like being die cast):
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...d/Image012.jpg
I then clamped it up on the bridgeport and milled off the excess ally:
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...d/Image018.jpg
This is as far as i got:
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...d/Image019.jpg
Going to make a plate tonight to fill the hole, may even get chance to fire up the AC set and weld it in. Still unsure whether to remove th oil filler as well as it wont be used? Opinions?
Off to bed. Night :)
-
Nice. No oil filler cap would look cool
Remove the front/top lugs too that hold the standard engine cover on ;)
-
Good point :thumb: will do that tonight.
-
Decided to remove the oil filler and lugs. Should look smooooothe when painted.

Recieved a few goodies today :D Still no bloody tube or my rear 1/4's:mad:

Made a start on fitting the diff and new seals. Cant finish it yet due to not having the final drive bolts!
Take 1 straight cut gearbox
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...d/DSCI0186.jpg
A 4:18 final drive
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...eeelpinion.jpg
And a tran x diff with f20 side gears so i can run equal length shafts :D
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...haftindiff.jpg
And a seal/gasket kit
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...d/Newseals.jpg
Remove turret from box
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...d/turreton.jpg
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d.../turretoff.jpg
Next remove the gears. Some of you may notice that the end of the box isnt the same as most f13's. Thats due to it being an f10 ge****t in the f13 casing. Had to do this as the f10 casing isnt suitable for the 1600.

Top work! Will you need to get the equal length shaft shortened at all to allow for the smaller block or space the braket out?
Can I just ask, what is the blue gel/grease you've put around the diff seals? I've recently rebuilt my 'box and both the new diff seals are leaking....
-
Because im running a wide track i can keep the shaft lengths standard. Im going to have to make a bracket to hang the bracket off due to only one hole lining up.
The "blue stuff" is called universal blue and is made by Hylomar. Dont know what it will be like on seals. The company i work for (rolls royce) originally invented the stuff for their engines and sold the recipe to hylomar so if its good enough for the merlin engine its good enough for the nova lol .
-
Ideal! Sorry I didn't reliese it was going to be wide tracked/arched
Cheers for the heads up on the universal blue, I'll see what I can get hold of.
-
No Probs. If you cant find it drop me a PM ;)
-
looking good, that box is going to sound sweet whineing away...love the sound of a straight cut box
-
Got a long, long, long way to go though
-
Liking the box setup.
BUT that box casing to me, looks like a 4speed?
-
Its an f13 casing with a 4 speed straight cut cluster, thats why the end of the casing looks like it does. Unless you mean somwhere else on the case?
-
Ahh right, yeah the casing is a 4spd type.
So are you just having 4gears?
-
Afraid so. Probably going to be the biggest draw bak of the car, not much in the top end. Once the cars built i will start saving for the 6 speed kit probably.
-
Finished the turret, from this:

Removed this

Added this

Now looks like this

Off to bed now, bloody nights. When i get up im going to press the nova hubs out and the cavalier hubs out there carriers. Can then take them into work and machine them for the group A bearings :) .
-
Not much of an update. Still trying to source the diff bearings, might have to go direct to vauxhall? Made myself a tool for tightning the diff nut, made a blanking plug for the hole where the speed sender lived and did bit more on my cam cover. Heres a few pics:
From this:
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d.../toolplate.jpg
To this:

Sender plug made from alumium

voila

http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d..._ed/plugin.jpg
Made a fixture for my cam cover so that i can weld the piece of ally in level, also elongated the whole as its easier too make a plate.
Just drilled and tapped a piece of 10mm steel. Used m8 bolts to hold eiher end down and three m8's to level the plate up. Simple.
