Greg

no bad for a young boy the wee nova looks quick and good slide greg
-
finished the autotest today (just).. finished 5th/6th overall, still dont know excactly where but it wasnt far away from there. had a fair bit of competition, a few rally cars there.
half way through the day my engine started rattling and got worse and worse through the day. i was pleased to finish but its the bottom end which means engine out job, re-build, fit clutch at same time and a cam and vernier pulley.. shame about the engine as there is one more event to do this year which i need to do and we havnt got alot of time..
uploading videos now..
Greg
-
get that engine fixed pronto!
-
Deffo bottom end?
Rattles usually top.
Sounds nice in the vids
-
-
Nifty drivin - That sound makes me smile all the time :D
-
You got a oil pressure gauge fitted?
-
no, but thinking about fitting one.
-
come on guys, get the comments coming.:D
Greg
-
some pretty sharp driving there
alot of slipping the clutch?
-
-
Tight turns, probably oil surge starved the pump briefly of oil, causing the tapping...
-
but even 15mins after i turned it off before i put it on the trailer it was rattling like fook!
it doesnt seem to do it when cold, or not as bad anyway..

Love the sound of those carbs. Im currently trying to find a set for my 1400 corsa. Did they take alot of setting up Greg?
-
no the carbs didnt take much setting up. they were already on a nova and jetted for a 1300 so it wasnt too bad. had a muck about with the idle and advancing the timing to get it revving cleaner and more responsive..
they sound great! i love them! smile nearly every time i drive it..
Greg
-
got a few more pics..took sump off, put new shells and had the crank re-ground..
hopefully this will cure the rattle. but only got 2 events to do then i dont care if it blows up as i have bought a sri engine to modify for next year (cheers stevie)..
also got a new omp strut brace.looks really good i think.

had some brilliant fun in the car and good results. was competing in the last autoest yesterday and it was a really good laugh. i got a bit carried away though!:thumb: i managed to win the junior championship for 2007, but got good competition next year so i hope the car is going to be reliable like this year!

in the pics above the car is sitting next to the new shell that will be hopefully getting built soon.. got another nova coming that i might use or use bits off it.
the new car will have a full roll cage, better bucket seats, alloy door panels and switch panel, coilovers on the front, bilstein rear forest struts, sump and tank gaurds, quick rack, mudflaps, gsi skirts and will be getting seam welded and re-sprayed all white.

Seen you're car on here before and on youtube, and never put 2 and 2 together. Sounds amazing man. Dad's got Twin 40s on a CVH ford 1.6 in his Seven.....sounds soooooooo good.
The second video on this thread, of you handbraking was favourited ages ago on youtube......i just turn the sound right up to listen to the engine :P
I'm starting autotesting my nova this year, first one on April 16th.
Did some last year in my dads 1.4 Punto Sporting, but the car's worth too much to chuck around properly.
You're autotests seem quite quick and open compared to some of the tight and twisty ones we did last year, however there wasn't as much space as in your vids. Hoping this year some will be quicker.
Cant wait to start in the nova.
-
hi mate. thanks for the positive comment/s..
Autotesting is a good laugh, i am doing it for fun and as much experience as possible as i am under 17. then i plan on doing rallying.
it depends what venue we use, how fast and open the course is..
-
Yer, autotesting might not be that fast at times, but gives me such a buzz. I do it for the same reasons, still 16 at the mo, so autotesting is the only way for me to get the petrolhead fix, and quite cheap too.
Which rally tyres do you use on the fronts??? Colway, Max Sport?
-
Colway mud and snow's on the front for grass and sometimes gravel.
I had Max Sports at the start of last year and found they were pretty rubbish compared to my Colways.
Another wee tip (you probably know already) but get narrow 13/14'' wheels on the back and get tyre pressure up about 60/65psi.. makes it easier to handbrake, slide etc etc..
i have an autotest this weekend, i will try get some pics and videos..
-
good stuff mate. 60/65 psi?? bit much aint it lol
I'v been thinking about puttin the standard skinnies on the back for handbrake turns. Got some GTEs on the car at the mo so will change the rears for my next autotest in April. Cant wait to see how the old Nova performs. Might get some Colways for the fronts for some decent grip.
-
yes 65 psi is a bit hard but helps on tar, so the back end comes out easily..makes it easier to slide/handbrake etc..
let us know how the nova performs..get some pics and videos i you can mate!
p.s, keep the gte wheels on the front..more traction as they are 14'' and keep the pressure to around 30/35 psi depending on conditions..
-
-
like what your doing. its encouraging to see a young lad with a healthy interest! unlike most that i come across.
craig
-
How come the registrations changed?
-
simply because the plates are cooler..ha ha
its never driven on roads and always trailered to events so it saved me buying new plates..
-
I'm going to fashion some sort of in car camera mount (probably stick a tripod where the back seats were) and get some autotesting vids done.
Plus it'll show some mates what autotesting really is, because people never understand and mix it up with autograss racing!
-
yeah..am going to get my dad to hold up the camera on saturday out on the track..lol
if you want to see some more vids of autotesting with our car club type in soscc autotest in youtube.:thumb:
