Looks and sounds spot on Dar!

Thanks:thumb:
I really can't wait to drive it now. Finally getting it started again was a real relief. Im always really worried that something is going to go wrong. Thankfully no such dramas this time. I just need to run it up and let all the rubbish burn off of the new exhaust manifold.
sweeeeeeeeeet.
Looking good Dar, really like the internal brake lines there a nice touch. :thumb:
car looks awesome asusual dar
Got my exhaust system fitted today. I wanted the car as quite as possible for the sound tests.

I also had chance to drive the car once the exhaust was on and it whines away like a goodun, so I know the box is deffo straight cut. The linkage feels nice as well. So its finished for the time being. Im just hoping for a trouble free test at Combe.
The exhaust was done by Inifinty Exhausts in Yate. A really top notch job and exactly what I asked for.
Awesome ,looks like a top job.
That looks proper bo innit. Big up the shiney backbox massive!
And your gearbox whines because you forgot to put oil in it lol
That looks cool.
How much if you dont mind me asking?
****! your right!!!:(Quote:

A teeny weeny update. Just before I leave for Combe I thought I would show you guys my wheels finished. Both are satin black so I don't have to clean them much:D
These are the trackday wheels. Finished this morning with the addition of the little centre piccys.

No problem, Glad you got them mate.
Looks good. Hope my project will as good as yours when its done!
Ian
same lap times as the reyland escort around combe lol
What a car + driver :D
Fantastic Mr.Dar
Has the diffuser made a noticeable difference !?
Neil timed him earlier in the day at a second faster than the reyland Escos. :DQuote:

Dar you and your car were sensational today! Hoooj respek!
Can't remember exact quotes (due to cider induced memory loss) but I heard several spectators mouthing expletives about how quick u were :thumb:
Thanks:)
It was a good day. Im hoping my car will do a sub 1:20 lap with no traffic and to be fair the Reyland boys must have been testing earlier on in the day because there is no way that my Nova would keep up with either of those bad boys!!
The car felt great and the gearing was as predicted/calculated (thankfully). So im happy as a happy thing. Im currently uploading the vids at the mo for you guys to watch.
It really is a very nice feeling knowing that people spotted the car and thought it looked fast.
Top man glad the car is running well
Brilliant! Didn't realise you had a project thread going Dar.
The car's looking sweet. Can't wait to see her on track, especially with the new quaife box.
It was flying!Quote:

Your ears must be burning Dar, a colleague of mine was at Combe on the weekend (just spectating) was telling me about the awsome red Nova he saw running and the nutter behind the wheel.
Your fame seems to be spreading across the country rapidly, international superstar next lol
Thats great!! I love it when my car gets noticed:)
Im still waiting for some outside footage of it from the trackday. I want to hear what it sounded like from the outside.
well she she really was singing wasnt she dar lol that gold mk1 golf in the 1st vid looked like it went alright but yeah your car was awesome
That Golf was a quick car! Well driven as well.
do you know anything about it ie engine , specs
I've been told it has 220bhp. I know its running throttle bodies and im sure its a 2l 16v.
Great track footage DAR and a massive inspiration for me, Novaneil posted up some times at work today that he took of some of his mates, yours and the Reyland cossies + some tasty pics... your lap times really are impressive!!
Could you give me a bit more info on the gear linkage please... is it off a std Astra/cav? and exactly what did you do to mod the exsisting linkage?
I've stripped out the entire interior this PM so am looking at starting shaving off all the excess metal trim inside and seam wleding within the next couple of weeks, and want to take the chance to complete all the neccessary internal mods whilst i'm there.... still fancy making up a some linkages? if so PM me with a price.
Cheers, Dave.
You ask and I deliver...Quote:

My phone is absolutely rubbish at vids sorry :( I tried my best tho!
Oli you are a star!! Thanks!
dabsy - The gear linkage is just out of a standard cav. You cut out the metal in front of the normal gear shift and then the metal around where the old one was. Weld a plate over the hole. The cav gear shift has to be shortened by 3" and straightened. The competiton build manual says this :-
The actuall rose jointed linkage is easily made up and works like a charm. I reckon its the next best thing to a direct linkage. Nothing will beat a direct linkage, but this is very good. The best way to show how to make one would be with piccys, so I will dismantel my spare one that uses the smaller rose joints and take piccys. If I get time on friday I will do it then and post it up here.Quote:
Also carefully remove both the gearlever gaiter support bracket and the centre support shelf from the centre tunnel section, in readiness for the installation of the revised gearshift and linkage at a later stage. Once the carpet centre support has been removed, an elongated hole, approximately 80mm by 25mm must be formed in the centre section of the floor panel, along its centreline, starting 80mm rearward of the tunnel to bulkhead bodyseam. This is to give access to the engine bay for the revised gear linkage. The area of centre tunnel and exposed hole i mmediately below the gearlever gaiter support bracket can be closed off and strengthened using the shaped blanking plate supplied. This should be welded into place.
very nice looking car that mate, wish i had money to make mine look like that, college is gay!
Cheers DAR you are the man, awaiting pics.... best place for value rose joints?
Looks like a shopping trip to the scrappy is on this weekend then!
Cheers, Dave.
Rose jointed linkage
The linkage in these piccys was my test linkage. The proper one thats on the car uses larger rose joints. i.e. M8 instead of M6 and M10 instead of M8.
Chop off this joint. Then drill a M10 hold down the rod and tap it. The rose joint fits in to place as in the picture. Please note that the nut at the bottom of the rose joint sits very close to the gearbox and you may need to grind a few mm off for it to not foul.

Do the same with the other end.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...62_640x480.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...63_640x480.jpg
Grind off this ball and you will uncover this M8 sized hole.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...56_640x480.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...57_640x480.jpg
Do the same on the other side.

This piccy shows the bar with the rose joints at each and in comparison to the standard one. These are M6 rose joints but you are better off with M8's here because the bolts fit the holes you uncover much better. Just bolt this where the old bar used to go and its done.

Standard vs modifyed
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...54_640x480.jpg
A little video showing what the gear change is like. Lots of people ask how the internal cav shifter is compared to the standard Nova one. So couple the cav shifter with the rose jointed linkage and this is what its like.
Gear linakge test
Then fit it on to the car and adjust it so that it all works and you can get every gear.
that looks well good! where yo buy all your parts for it from?
