Just finding the time to get it sorted. Need to get my finger out and get it sorted.
Debating wether to take it to PV as I have not been for a couple of years.
Do it, pv is better than it used to be.
Lovely example Rich!
I think pv is as good as billing if not better as you can abuse the car!!
Looks like a real good restoration you got there Rich :)
Thanks guys :).
As the weather was good today I decided I would spend a bit of time on the SR.
The dizzy had been rattling so I swapped it for another good used one I had. I then set the timing and found it had been way out, it now drives much nicer :).
I have also replaced the drivers door handle with the correct modified black handle for the later doors. I had a job getting the old one out as it did not fit correctly.
I Waxoyled the door cavity whilst the door car was off to protect the new door.
Also swapped the parcel shelf & side supports as the original was faded and had speakers fitted.
Just a few more little jobs to do so hopefully I can take it to PVS next weekend.
Sorry, this is the only pic I got as I was busy and my phone battery went flat.

Nice picture...
Engine bay looks very clean..
Did changing the distributor remove the rattle?
Slack timing belts often cause the distributors to rattle on these engines.....:)
Not really lol. Correcting the timing seemed to improve it slightly but it is still there. I will check the cambelt tension, I think it was replaced along with the water pump by the last owner. What is the best way to get the correct tension?
I could not find any play in either dizzy so you may be right.
I have a genuine GM gauge that I 'borrowed' when I left the dealership...
As a rule if I didn't have a gauge, I would say that you shouldn't be able to twist the belt more than 90 degrees at the mid point of it's longest travel...
Turn the engine a couple of full rotations by hand and check it again..
Don't over-tension a worn belt though....
This ^
looks good that rich
Very nice rich didnt realise you had an sr till you FB message about a rear seat, but I'm largely inactive on here now due to work and family commitments, great adittion to te fleet mate you will need a warehouse soon at this rate lol
Nice SR Rich, keep it Vauxhall :)
Very nice! I hope to see it at PVS :)
Thanks guys. Just got a few little bits to do for PV.
The door membrane that the bodyshop had fitted was a bit like clingfilm so just fell apart as I tried to remove it when I replaced the door handle.
I remembered that we had a big roll of proper membrane plastic at work so I cut off a piece and brought it home. Got the pattern from an old split membrane I had in the garage so marked up the new plastic and got it cut. Not turned out too bad. Will get some sealer from work and stick it on this week so I can get the panel back on,

Insane in the membrane, insane in the brain lol
So there are even parts that you DON'T have in your warehouse... LOL
Good job on the door membrane Rich!!
Fitted the membrane tonight and got the door built back up.

Pissed off I broke the new Hella numberplate lamp :(. Luckily I had a spare
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps8e7f43ba.jpg
The SR came with a toolkit but half of the contents were missing. Checked my stock & dragged this out.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps20db072e.jpg
And fitted it
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psec52450b.jpg
Chucked in some old mats I had in the loft
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps7f101aef.jpg
Fitted a new boot strut as the old one was beyond knackered
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pse81a4dd6.jpg
And again raided my stash for a better parcel shelf & side supports with some retro speakers fitted

Seats next I think on Saturday
A good update, the little extras you've stored must be coming in handy. Are you going to be putting the best seats you own in this then Rich?
Yeah I have some mint seats. I had the drivers bolster done with fabric from a spare passenger seat ages ago. Had them for the Sport shell.
There is nothing really much that needs doing, just little bits here & there. Why, you looking to buy it? lol
lol I wish... save it for me.
Well f**k me, you were correct. Removed the cambelt cover and found the belt was quite slack and could be twisted over 180 degrees!
It looked to be a new pump & belt so took a risk on the pump not leaking & tensioned it up correctly. Built it back up and hey presto, noise has gone!
Didn't get time to swap the seats over so just gave it a wash & wipe over. All ready for PVS.

damn, that is a shiny black, almost as clear as a mirror !
Had a nose around this today and didn't realise who's it was! Lol
very nice indeed!
Spent a bit of time on the SR tonight. I removed what was left of the passenger Jesus handle. I wanted to keep the pegs so set about hacking the handle to bits around them. Made a bit of a mess lol

New handle in, just pegs to refit.

I have removed the modern CD player as I want to get the SR back to original with the dash mounted fader. Fader was disconnected from the modern wiring and readied for the original spec new old stock radio cassette.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...pshdmrug3v.jpg
Continuing on the original theme, I will likely put the original spec steering wheel back in. I had kept this from a low mileage 85 Swing I broke years ago.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psg4mwizwt.jpg
Also want to fit a set of headlight washers. Just trying the tank for size :)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...psjtrsffsl.jpg
The radio only has an output for 2x speakers which goes to the fader and splits it to 4x speakers. As the power output will be so low I will likely then wire it to this period amp as it has speaker inputs as well as DIN then onto the speakers with 25wx4

Unfortunately I may have to sell the SR soon as I am losing one of my garages :(. Bit annoying as not had it long and got loads of plans for it.
Bring it over here, lots of room left in my lock-up! Niek will take you back to Blighty on August 23rd. :d
Original wheel back in.

Got a another Blaupunkt amp to go in, just need some old school speaker terminals to fit it.

What's the status on the sale?
Great progress - keep updates flowing
Gorgeous car, one of my fave Nova editions, the Black mk1 SR.
I only wish I had the funds to re-home it.
Amp is mounted under the dash and partially wired in

Bought some Caliber 2 way speakers and fitted them too. Only £15 BNIB delivered so hopefully they are OK. Bit of a tight fit on the drivers side though.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ps6fnb6w8l.jpg
Tidy job.
You can get a Din plug iPod lead I could plug directly into it too. Just need to put a small hole in the back of the glovebox to access it.
Very nice car indeed!
Cracking motor, take it you've had a change of heart about selling it ?
