Remember this car well from back in the day, be intresting to see the outside of it now.
Your plans for it sound awsome.
ill be changing the wheels over at the weekend so i can push it out the lockup. ill get some pics up. the arches arnt a bonnie sight...
Look forward to seeing how this goes. Are you planning for it to look like an original GSi, with the exception of it being carbon? lol
^ yeah thats basically the plan mate, well for the outside. the inside will be stripped with a carbon dash, carbon seats and a roll cage
got a we bit more done today, wanted more done but got too dark. i pumped the tyres up for the first time in around 4 years so hopefully they stay inflated.
The engine will be removed tomorrow aswell (hopefully) lol

project deal with rust before adding carbon lol
how are you going about rust treatment and protection mate?
lol lol it's going into the bodyshop in the next few months. It's getting blasted etc. They can worry about it lol I'll hopefully have it out the lockup tomorrow I'll get some pics up of the rear arches etc
Are you wrapping body panels in carbon? Or are you going the whole hog and create moulds to make full carbon parts? Just wondering, as I quite fancy full carbon stuff myself (when I can afford it, that is). Either way, excellent work and nice to see Steve's old GSi being saved from the great scrapyard in the sky. :thumb:
love the front end on this :)
what about wrapping the rollcage
I havn't decided what I'm doing with the cage yet. Don't know how good it would look wrapped though
Got the engine removed today. Big thanks to Mark (scorge01) off here for doing it. + rep bud. Will get pics up tomorrow, was too dark.
a we update. got over to the car in the daylight for some pics. got the whhels changed over to the speedlines as the tires on the cav slabs are goosed.
The arches have seen better days, the driver side on the outside isnt to bad but the inside is ****ed, and the outside of the driver side is a mess but the inside is fine. pics arn't the best of quality as they were taken on my iphone, ill maybe start using my camera.

Looks like a proper GSI now with the speedlines lol
lol yeah looks much better. Only put them on to get the car rolling again though
I've been looking forward to seeing a thread on this seeings I've seen loads of the parts Chris has made, should be one of a kind road legal Nova once finished ;)
The shell looks a bit sorry for its self though so hope things go smoothly for you :thumb:
Some nice parts you have their, It will be interesting to see how they fit together. I think a nice 100% carbon tax disc holder would go well in their too lol link below........

Nick.
Yeah it I looking a bit sorry for its self but I will have it back to how it should be! Also doesn't look like I'll ever need to worry about my arches going rusty again as I'm getting carbon ones! :) :) :)
All you need is the floor pan and roof and you've got rid of 90% of rust issues then lol
I know lol I wasn't wanting a roof as I want to keep the sunroof but mayb I'll change my mind.
If your spraying the whole car red though it seems a shame to cover the carbon goodness :(
No no I'm not painting the carbon. Only the metal that's left will be painted red. I would have bought fibreglass parts if I was going to paint it lol
Thank fook for that then lol Did think it was a waste.
normally the inner tub is spot welded on to the 'outer' quarter. How will you bond the 2 sections together when you fit the carbon quarters to give it strength?
^ I honestly have no idea yet mate I'm sure I'll get something sorted though
Glue. There are proper strong bonders out there now.
Chris did mention something about epoxy glue, I'll see what happens lol
BMW have been gluing cars for years, find out about their bonding glue,
i would like to test this 'bonding glue' with you.
This is cool as ****!
lol lol
Be good to see how it turns out.
Although when i think red & carbon i always think of bigron off CorsaSport's car.

Yeah that thing is tidy. Well if this does go ahead with the quarters the only bits red will be the roof and the a pillar. So will I have to declare to the dvla of a colour change?
Love the carbon bumper, looks really well made.
