*Update time*
Day seven in the big brother chicken shed lol
Been up to get some more strippyness done today, moved her outside to drop the coolant and start pulling the heater box out.....
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36...p/DSC03818.jpg
This is how the battery tray hole started out....
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36...p/DSC03819.jpg
Chassis leg...
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36...p/DSC03820.jpg
And the state of the inside of the car...
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36...p/DSC03821.jpg
Back inside and got cracking on removing the engine bay wiring, all pulled through into the car now, and most of the coolant pipes off and the heater box out...
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36...p/DSC03822.jpg
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36...p/DSC03823.jpg
Chassis leg after a bit of bashing and scraping with a big ass screwdriver, is actually solid so i reckon a zippy wheel to take it all back and treat it with rust killer and possibly a bead of weld and it will be good as new...
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36...p/DSC03825.jpg
Battery tray now the holes have been widened....
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36...p/DSC03826.jpg
Torchlight from underneath to show the hole...
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36...p/DSC03829.jpg
And the scuttle now cleared of blower motor and the like, im in two minds on removing the firewall, im tempted to do it but unsure, opinions please....

Plan is next time im up there, is to get myself an engine stand and get the lump dropped out, split from the box and up on a stand so i can start to strip and degrease and clean up the block, my mates suggested removing the sound deadening from the bulkhead as its a fire risk whilst welding and plus i can check for rot along the bulkhead too!
Not as rotten as some. Get some sort of wire wheel on the rust and bring it back to bear metal if you can, then krust or somthing.
You problery know anyway.
Dont fancy selling the blukhead sound deading do you? :p
Ps: removing the blukhead on a road car with the heater etc in place will cause a lot of nasty engine smells to come into the cabin, Its not nice smelling burning oil or anything lol
If you get stuck with the wiring give me a shout :thumb:Quote:

Cheers joff, i should be alright as its a simple chop the wires then the two halves run to the switch, its one of those old plug in 'the immobiliser' things, ive snipped it out just need to rejoin them and run a length into the car as im gonna mount an ignition kill switch, need to source an alarm too while im playing with wires:thumb:
nice work spud,keep it up:thumb:
i wanna see this next year:d
Aye i know those deadings are a pain in the tit to remove but ive been lusting after one for years.
Oh just a point, with the wire wheel, i found a grinder attachment is much better than a drill one due to the speed. Been stripping it all off my shell and its so much easyer with the grinder lol
I have a couple of Meta immobilsers if you need one - excellent quailty (have them on all of the fleet) and I think they are CAT2 as well (all black wires)Quote:

Id be interested in one of the immobilisers please mr Joff as, as of my wiring playings she doesnt have an immobiliser, only the kill switch i shall be hiding someplace special lol
You can have a look at the collection when we move the Saloon if you want (assuming you still want to help:confused: )Quote:

Yes as soon as i source a stand ill be getting the engine out, split from the box and onto the stand :d
get one at payday then lol and i,ll come over the week after and fetch my drill and wire wheels and we,ll get the bay seams cleaned up ;)
oh and not forgetting the degreaser:thumb:
Now theres a plan mate, im well up for that, you wanna see if you can swipe some primer too and ill source some rust treatment stuff:d
Them stands are always on the bay mate.£20-30 should see you one.
Bloody hell i didnt realise they were that cheap, cheers for the heads up Andy, cant wait to get the lump out and get cracked on with doing this, i miss it lol
Small update for today, more little bits falling into place, i came across a blue antibes carpet the other week, looked like its had some oil spilled on it some pointand needed some tlc, asked my mate if i could use his steam cleaner (co-owns a second hand car spot) and he said no probs as long as i took him some sugar as he had none and needed a coffee lol
So for a bag of sugar i got the use of his diesel powered steam cleaner (heat needed to clean em properly) and the interior cleaner too, even got to give the cav a quick splash over too, cheers jon youre a star!
Anyways pics needed, heres the carpet a few weeks back when i got it from my mate (an no im not selling it) tis in good nick apart from its had bucket seats bolted directly through the floorpan previously (these holes are under the seat so wont be seen) and its had fixing points for harnesses bolted through the center tunnel on the sides behind the front seats, again niggly so i dont mind....

mine does it wheather your driving or just getting in and out
might take it out and sit on the floor lol
nice one mr potato. gsi dash and blue carpet is going to look :thumb:
Thats what im hoping mr brains :d
And Craig, milk crate FTW lol
looks good mate, carpet came out nice
i fitted the blue carpet to my old black gsi looked nice.
Where the support springs in the base are connected to the metal frame of the base , the springs are wrapped in what looks like headlining material.Quote:

If you have your seats out have a look underneath and get an old pair of jeans or something, chop them up and replace the material at the ends of the support springs which should cure the problems.
:thumb:
Joff
Cheers joff ill give that a try as i have plenty of old pairs of jeans, saves me sourcing a new drivers seat, thanking you:thumb:
Retrimed seats with jeans thats different lol
Loving the blue carpet. Are you going to start wearing slippers so you don't get them dirty. :d
Ideal for storing things as well. lolQuote:
