woah, i turned a spanner!
Vauxhall are still gay though and didn't order all the parts i asked for, plus nowhere is open so i cant get my crank ground, not that vauxhall ordered any shells. Found a place for the piston rings and going to try another place tomorrow for the shells.
Anyway, started after lunch and mounted the engine up:

seem to be missing a few bits....
then clean up the rocker cover, starter motor and alternator and a few other bit that took ages. and i finally fitted my first new part! a washer/gasket thing:

couldn't do much more on the engine so i turn my attention to the car, or rather rust hunting now remember all these panels are 15 years old (original) so i dont think it's too bad:

I think i might just need a new front crossmember and slam panel, on top of a new rear panel, boot repair and if im being picky a new wing and rear arch, oh umm. Anyone in the area what to teach me to weld...? anyone?

small update, cleaned up/decoked pistons and deseamed the rods, and finally dropped my crank and flywheel off at John Perate's for grinding, lightening and balancing. shame i wont be about to pick them up/ fit them. :( only now need a cam and my engine will be complete. have to wait till easter now probably.

Well at least you're actually doing useful engine bits, instead of p*ssing about with the interior like me (whilst generally trying not to think about how to put an engine in!) lol

Ash. I doubt its any use.
Ive got 20k balanced & deseamed rods with ARPs, Mahle pistons etc. came out of my turbo bottom end that developed a crack in the block.
Good progress though. Should be a cracker when done.

i paid 5o quid for my rings and 18 for the shells. either mine are made of cheese or youre getting skanked!!

cheers for the comments guys, i've just finished deseaming my rods, i should weigh them as well, i suppose. Craig arent your pistons for a bored out block (1650cc) and low compression? Just wondering, im keeping standard pistons and already have bought some arp bolts, doh. cheers anyhows
Where did you get your shells from staggy? I've got piston rings now (?60 - lmf, plus another set of GM lowers) but struggling on the shells, john perate was meant to be getting back to me today with a price, but no word yet.

Nah my pistons arent for 1650. Std compression too.
they are Mahle replacements, forget what exact bore size is.
