Can you not get a list of previous owners from the DVLA if you are the current owner, should give you a clue where it was sold from when new.........

Basically yes, but it just the last two letters that relate to where it was registered, there are usually a few variations for each registering area, for example Hull had three originally..

KH
RH
AT

And i think AG was also East Yorkshire area aswell, so in that case the saloon that burgo now has, is originally from my area, and Scott Parkers Passat is a Hull car too:thumb:

Yes i knows this, seen as how all novas are registerd on prefix plates and not the new style ones, and the op was wanting to know where his nova is from, i kind of figured this would be more relevant, rather than explaining how the XX51 XXX plates work:roll:

iv can apply using a v888 forum and £5 to try and get the original dealer or owners details. but they have said they might or might not give out details for privacy reasons

Easiest way to explain the new type is the two beginning letters are where it is registered i.e. YY51 XXX

The YY is where it was registered, in this case Yorkshire
51 is obviously the year and month it was registered, the 5th month of 2001
And the last three letters XXX are just a random combination to make the plate up.

Nope 51 means it was registered from September 2001 to the end of February 2002.

Their is no reference to the month the car was registered in the new style plates.
