It reduces the throw of the piston & rod by using a different crank to make the CC smaller without altering the bore size. It makes for a faster revving engine as the piston has less distance to travel up & down. The crank and rod has less work to do.

The early 1.2ST engines actually have a larger bore than a 1300 but a shorter throw on the crank to reduce swept volume(iirc), thats why the early 1.2 is a nice revvy engine.

Wheels look similar to RH cups. I'd say the arches were fabricated

i knew that. am i right in saying you can use the 1.3 crank and rods in a 1.2 to get a 1.4?

ahh cool, thats pretty interesting, i was chatting to my boss at work yesterday about engine destroking, is that all you have to change? does that mean this guy could enter a 1300cc max rally in that destroked 1.6? sneaky sneaky

It's cars like that make me REALLY want to Mk1 convert my MK2.
