Hi guys,
My apologies as it has been a while and I know many of you have been patiently waiting for an update! After parting company with A6VXL I had more or less decided that my next project wouldn't be another nova as I fancied something more up to date. But I did want to stay vauxhall as I enjoy some of the shows and have made many good friends on the scene along the way. So I started looking a corsa c's with the intention of either zleh/zlet but after viewing/driving a few already converted I was put off and decided they were not for me. Around the same time Brian Hartley came over to York in his nova for my dent guy to go round the full car for him. Now this crossed with a drunken early hours stint in Andy B's garage looking at two cracking novas is were it all went wrong.......... Brians car was sat in my garage nearly all day whilst it was being worked on and I had nothing to do but have a very detailed look round it. My findings pretty much amazed me as could not believe how original and stunningly clean it was. To cut a long story short over the next few weeks after I struck a deal with Brian and bought the car.
So the story goes a guy bought the car from Tipton Vauxhall (Midlands) new back in 1987 and not long after fell ill and was unable to drive. The nova sat in his garage unused for years until it was finally serviced/re mot'd and finally put up for sale. Brian saw it advertised and bought it in 2010 with only 12,000 miles on the clock! Whilst he owned it some of you will have seen the car at the billing vboa bash but it still hasn't seen a great deal of use. I think most of the miles he added to the car were the newcastle to northampton runs for those shows and apart from that its sat in his garage staying hidden from the typical english weather. Its still now only covered a low 15,000 miles! But regardless of the mileage its the condition that really interested me. I've spent hours going round this car and its so untouched its unreal. The only paint its seen is a small local repair on the boot but apart from that the rest is 100% original. I have even double checked this with a paint depth gauge! The few small dents it had were removed via paintless dent and the car is perfectly straight. I've never owned one as flawless! The underside looks like its never seen a jack as its all completely perfect. Rear chassis legs and round the back of the rear panel are immaculate as is the engine bay. The only thing I can actually fault it on is a very slight amount of corrosion on the rear arch lips but even this can only be seen on close inspection.
I even had the torch inside the crossmember looking below the drain holes and found nothing! It has to be one of the best remaining bases I could have found especially for the cost which was reasonable unlike you may have expected. Throughout Brians ownership the car remained completely stock whilst he saved his money for expensive parts he wanted. Until august last year when he got itchy feet and decided to add cesaros, lowering springs and a back box. Personally I like the look it has inside and out and I'm tempted to keep it almost identical. The only change will be under the bonnet with running gear to suit. The previous two novas I've owned which many of you know me for were initially put together by other people. Now I may have put a different spin on them but their was always something I wasn't a fan of. Or something I wouldn't have done like that. This being so original and untouched gives me the chance to spec and put together something completely to my taste throughout which is something I'm really looking forward to. It wont be anything that hasn't been seen before or anything with huge cost but just how I want it. Id like to source almost everything second hand too If I can! No new parts ftw! Lol.
This is the only downer........ we are currently looking at a possible house move due to Yorkshire water crushing development plans for our current house. So all funding for the car is on hold whilst we see what happens on the house front. In fact I nearly even sold the nova after recent interest from a mate which is why I haven't really bothered with updating as I didn't know what may happen. For now though I'm glad I still own it and look forward to being able to turn my ideas into reality as I've done with my previous projects. Updates may be few and far between for a while but I hope you've enjoyed reading a proper update as oppose to someone bumping the thread! Enjoy the pics guys.
