Slightly on and off topic: the BMW 316i we have will receive a decent engine when the 1600 8v (200k+ miles and still not burning any oil!) finally expires. Some research has proven that Beemer engines and ancillaries are nice and modular - an M62B44 (that's a 286bhp 32v 4.4 litre V8 from a 540i) is less bother to fit than a LET with a F28 tranny in a Nova.

...anyway, keep sharing the VXR parts interchangability (nice word) knowledge with us mister Count!

excellent project i forgot to add earlier

i know the meriva vxr is largely based on the 1.8 engine, although 1600cc.

the 1.6 rods will go into the 1.8engine and pistons too.

i read they sell the corsa vxr pistons in 3 sizes, but i doubt big enough to go in the std 1800 bore?

after reading about your vxr turbo fitment, i will get a 1.6 and 1.8 small block exhaust manifold gasket up tomorrow to compare ;)

A vxr turbo will fit the 1.8 head as it has the same exhaust ports afaik.

Pretty sure Lee303 on Mig uses his old 1600 16v 4-2-1 manifold on his 1800 now

IRC little end's are different size between vxr lump(19mm) and 1800/x16xe (18mm)

exhaust manifold will bolt on to 1800 but need to slot bottom stud holes.

would be ok with corsa vxr rods too?

not a direct fit tho.. needs moving about..

We i didn't get anywhere close to actually working on the car today :mad: although the clutch seems like it will work, it fits the standard flywheel and pressure plate.

don't know if they'll do the right size,
but the compression height will be all wrong because the 1.8 has a low compression height to make room for the extra stroke, so won't work.

All looking good as usual, turbos a bit of a faff, but workable and like you say, the inlet is no great loss anyway. I do wonder if the vxr head would swap over too tho.

Glad the plate fits, just need to bolt it up with the box and check it releases but I dont forsee any problems.

VXR rods look nice and chunky compared to the 16xe ones!

The are modular, but the V8 is mounted upright and all the inline engines inlcined. Therefore you need a v8 box to go with the engine and manual V8 boxes are like hens teeth.

AFAIk the engine and box go in easy enough, but the steering column touches one of the manifolds on rhd cars and the brake servo is hellish tight too. Certainly a workable conversion though.
