Looking really good mate.
Looks like a propper job of the arches!
Thats one of the next jobs I have to do, dreading it!
They've came out alright Matt - Not the best tbh but they'll do - Not going to be a bit everyone looks at lol I hope...
Easy enough once you get into it though, I have a better idea of what to do the next time round if I ever do them again

There's different ways to do them lol Some folk lap them over the originals and some folk cut them out - All depends how rotten they are to begin with...
Most folk/places will usually clean up what's there and lap them over
That's what we done with mine because they weren't actually that bad - There just fitted to tidy the place up and preserve the car that wee bit longer...
I didn't take many pics in the WIP stages but talking through it's easy enough :)

Ive already cut all the rot out, and am debating butting them up:thumb:
Yes mate, that's how most places would do rear arches
They don't sit any further out mate as the repair panels are quite thin..By the time you've got your cataloy on etc and it's all feathered into the original panel it adds up nicely
No rot in the back mate as the original arch lip was cleaned up to bare metal so the new arch lip could be plug welded to it :)
the best thing to have done is have the arch panels but welded to the car, cause when you over lay the panel, you will trap moisture(sp), underneith, which in turn will rot them from the inside out.

My mate's silver Nova's been done the same way and the arch is still in perfect condition - Once it's pumped full of Waxoil and all properly sealed up it should be OK
Etch/Weld Through primer on the bare metal bits so it doesn't rust ;)
Another small update :)
Managed to get myself a metal oil cap that I'm slowly polishing up;
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...NovaWIP256.jpg
Also finally tracked down an early Mk1 Nova 3dr rear bumper - To match my early theme;
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...NovaWIP255.jpg
Got a perfect condition early Nova (Sport) radio blank in brown coming as well, paid over the odds for it but I wanted it, I'll get a picture of it when it comes and I also won another genuine Fearless Motorsport rear strutbrace so now my Mk1 and Mk2 Nova will both have them, unless a good offer comes up for one of them lol
That's all for now
Cheers, Vaughan
Yes it will, not right away, but over a small amount of time, it will rot, to reduce the chances or rot, weld through primer is best applied to all bare metal.Quote:

So, ill cut the panels to the exact size of the holes, then butt them upp
][ like that, end to end if you get me lol
Not really explaining myself well:(

^^^^^^^^ Your sad lol.
If you over lap the panels and weld them, the welding process, causes the moisture around the weld, both seen and hidden.
Up to you how you do it like Matt :)
My inner arches are sound but the outer arch lip was a wee bit scabby (Have pics to prove) So instead of the rust coming back through we just lapped a new panel on top of it
As I said, my mate's Nova is done like this as well and it's still perfect :)
Make sure you wear non flamable gloves lolQuote:

lol, on a serous note thou, both primer and body filler are porous, and will leave the metal under it to start to rust again, without you knowing it lol.
Lol, it must have looked like you had two big toes on one foot lol

Nick J put arches in his Yellow mk1 SR, that looked a top quality proper job
All depends how you do it Edd :) There's NO wrong way just folk do it different ways
Personally if I done my arches I'd have cut them out but most places and the guy who done mine at the time lapped them over the top
Just down to personal preference :)
thats what i did with mine just cut them out past the rot then measered repiar panels and welded them in but iether way its just swings and rounds about as they will all rot sooner or later lol
Its getting there mate, never knew you were after an early MK1 bumper you should of said, ive got a spare as im using a genuine GTE bumper on mine.
Ill take that rear brace off you also in time mate.
Good offer and it's yours :)
