Do get me wrong you might have more then one pull for the extinguisher, but im sure that it should be mounted internally maybe on the cage near the drive, so if you smell smoke/see fire YOU can pull it to put it out instantly, not stop get out then do it from out side, as most marshals on track days wont get to you in time either...
I have the same set up and i will be plumbing it in within the cabin/driver reach.
Alloy centers nice mate, glad to see your toddling on..
Scott
I chose to ignore it as it so deeply offended me
Hey Scott, cheers for the reply. Yes there will be a second pull cable mounted inside, going to be on the centre console.
good work iain keep it up fella..:thumb:
Good lad, i think i have two cables also? lol not 100% as Ive not looked at it for 8 months or more, i WILL fit it one day, should do it soon before on track again really, Humm job for the weekend maybe..
Scott
Slowly but surely it's getting there, nice work chap.
Cheers Harvey :thumb:
Seeing as the wife's watching Pap-Factor I thought I'd add a bit more on here...
First things first I decided to have a look at the radiator to manifold clearence as I wasn't happy with how little space there was.
Just as a reminder here is how it was
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ude/nova/1.jpg
I re-drilled a new hole and fitted a rubber grommet that was the correct size for the rad's leg...
It now has more than enough clearance. (You can see the standard grommet where it was sat)

Had to knock up a new top hose, but lucky had some hose with the right bends :)
Whilst the bumper was off I gave the tow eyes a splash of red

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0632.jpg
And finally cut out all the holes in my carbon plate for my dials which will be fastened into the nova mk2 binacle

That dash setup looks well cool.
Bit of an update with this, the wiring nightmare continues! lol
I've got the engine earthed now and the starter and alternator wired up. We've had the engine turning over on the starter button, and also tried a plug in a lead from the coil to see if we have a spark, and sadly no joy :(
We have a live and an earth at the coil but no joy...
Also still having probs with the digi-dash. Got no alternator light or oil pressure light even though there all plugged in and wired up. Also getting a slight live about 6volts back feeding to the indicator light on the dash which means its always slightly illuminated
At the minute were going to try a standard dash first to see if we are still having probs. Also got the fuel pump wired in and working via a separate switch (Thanks Alan :) )
So getting there bit by bit, but its just a case of sorting one thing out at a time.
Been collecting a few bits too, got a top tint windscreen and a mk2 dash carcass, aswell as some redstuff ceramic pads for the front.

Found these on eBay the other day too, and won the auction for a bargain price! and to top it off they were only 10mins down the road from me! a set of part worn AVON AC B10 soft compound semi slicks.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0759.jpg
These will be going on my cessaro's which I will be refurbing with these!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0762.jpg
That's all for now
I'm going to come round and steal your tyres.
I'll set the guard dog on your feet lol lol
Don't blow them clocks up just yet as we need to test them in mine! :p lol
Looking good mate, good work.
tyres are phat
Small update, got a set of NGK R twin electrode plugs, the correct size alternator belt (hopefully! lol) and some oil ready for the start up (if we manage to get our heads round the coil wiring!)
Also took my Toyo's to be fitted to my cav slab wheels and balanced
Excellent, starting it tonight then? lol
Where'd you get your tyres fitted and how much? :)
Coxy's sorting them for me :d
Right not sure if this will be much help to you but
6 pin amplifier plug pin 1 at the top of pic through to 6 at the bottom
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/a958dcab.jpg
Pins 1&2&4 go to hall effect sensor
Pin number and wire colours of hall effect sensor
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/dfc8442f.jpg
Pins 3&6 of amplifier plug ( pink and think brown go to coil)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/9bf06b58.jpg
Pin 5 of the 6 pin amplifier plug is then earthed on the body with or next to the brown earth for head lights
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/4e9fbce6.jpg
I'm sure wire colours are different but you can easily follow to get yours to work! Oh and run an ignition 12v supply to + side of coil (I ran mine from ignition switch so I knew I was getting good voltage easy to find need a wire that gets 12v when ignition is switch to position 2!) and the rev counter runs of negative side of coil straight to back of clocks
Photos are ****e due to being taken with I phone I would of thought your amplifier would be similar if not the same ( the pin designations I mean)
Nice one kris, that looks clear enough to follow. Thanks for sorting them pics, I'll do the same with my wiring and all being well it should work and I'll be able to bring it to life!!
Cheers again, rep added :)
Ian
Seeing as the threads up again there has been some progress, but no pics I'm afraid. Got my brakes all on and bled up using ate racing super blue fluid, dot 4. Went for this over 5.1 as it has a boiling point.
Had probs with the banjos into the rear drums as everytime I pressed the pedal fluid was p*ssing out. Found the problem too be that the back of the wheel cylinder is not a perfectly flat machined surface, so the copper washer was not seating properly and completely squashing up so allowing fluid to leak. So went to some straight male euroquip unions with the M10 x 1mm thread.
Also had probs with the hydraulic handbrake. Turns out I put the lines on back to front lollol
So braking system is all sorted bar tweaking for a good bias.
Well where do I start... Quite a big update :)
I've taken this week off work, and the intention is to get as much done on the nova as possible and with an aim to have it running by the end of the week. I've taken the car to a friends workshop where I've had alot of extra help and alot more room and tools to get jobs done! so here goes so far.
(Not too many pics though as I've been cracking on with stuff)
Car ready and waiting for a trailer ride
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0826.jpg
Got all the coil wiring sorted thanks to the pics from corsakid. Had a spark straight away. So much appreciated mate :d
Got the exhaust system on
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0841.jpg
Added a fan switch into the rad aswell as the manual switch I already have
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0837.jpg
Got the carbs all fastened on and connected up with throttle cable and fuel line & air filter etc...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0844.jpg
Got the coolant system filled up, and engine filled with oil
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...a/IMG_0834.jpg
Then we bit the bullet and went for a start-up! was pretty nervous but went well really, got oil pressure whilst cranking, and as soon as the fuel made its way to the carbs it burst into life, how happy am I about that! :d
Excellent work
good times!!!
Here's a small vid I took o the first run up of the engine. Hopefully it works as I've not uploaded a video before
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v3...t=IMG_0833.mp4
Ran it up again later on and got it up to temp and set the ignition timing and idle screw on carbs. Then after switching off we spotted something I didn't want to see at the end of a good days work. Big puddle of oil under the car :(
Investigated the leak this morning and it turned out to be the oil pressure sender unit not being tight enough. So added a copper washer as there wasn't one on and nipped it up and problem was solved :d
Topped the oil back up and then took it for a test drive around the yard to check gear linkage setup and clutch. All went well, nothing fell off and it drove quite well considering nothing has been properly setup :d
Sadly tonight ended in a similar way and we have spotted another oil leak :(
Its not loads compared to the last but I'd say more than 10 drips in less than 5 minutes of being stationary. It's coming from high up. The top of the drivers side engine mount bracket had oil on, and it looks like it's coming from behind the cam belt back plate too. Wondering if it could be the front cams oil seal behind the pulley. Need to investigate further tomorrow but any ideas welcome!
Only other issue that we've spotted is that the exhaust manifold from cylinder 3 hasn't burnt off as much paint as any of the others, (see pic below) which suggests its not running properly on this pot. Doesn't sound like its only running on 3 so again unsure what this could be. Any ideas on what to check for this too would be greatly appreciated

Couple of pic of how the car looks at the mo

cracking updates mate! :)
As I said to you on the phone the other night I was chasing coolant leaks, only small ones mind, when I first got my Astra running. Got there in the end though and as you are this far just keep ploughing on.
Whip the belt cover off and run the engine up to temp again with a few throttle blasts to help pressure the engine and please your ears drums. It could just be the rocker cover gasket hasn't sealed in the corners behind the cam pulleys or, as you have said, cam shaft seals not installed correctly or damaged during install. I recommend you install the rocker cover rubber gasket dry but pop a small amount of sealer in the corners behind the pulleys and the far end of the head near the half moor cutouts. Just tighten it hand tight and don’t go too mad. You can reuse the gasket a few times as well.
glad you got it all up and running in end bud.
sorry i could'nt be any help on the ignition setup tho..:thumb:
Good progress mate nice to see it running :)
Iain said you had made good progress, Cool to see it coming together. Two white track novas done in the same year?! (Presuming Iain dont get even more anal)
I agree with the rocker cover needing a bit of sealer on the end caps.
Thanks for the comments guys, it's really come together & took shape this week, and having a little drive of it has really spurred me on and wanting a trackday soon!!
Had another look at the oil leak today, and now not sure if it's coming from the crank pulley aswell as higher up, it's really annoying as the timing belt back cover is in the way to see clearly where the leaks from.
Today I've also got all the lights working. Got the bonnet on with 4 bonnet pins. Back bumper on, which needed cutting out for the exhaust. Fuel sender wires on, and all the battery lines p-clipped in. Was expecting some CDS to arrive to make some door bars but it's still not here yet :(
So one last push tomorrow to get as much done before I bring it home at the weekend and break it for parts :) lol just kidding the noise of them carbs has got me hooked!
Haha is that all the paint burning off in the vid? Car looks awesome now its "almost complete" looking.
Am I right in thinking running lean makes it run too hot? So it could potentially be overfueling in #3? (Just guessing!)
Yea the smoke is the paint burning off the exhaust, and as for the fuelling point you could be right for all I know! Lol that will be sorted on setup though if it is the problem. I'm more worried about this oil leak at the mo :(
Sure its not the bottom pully seal and then being thrown up by the pully etc?
Well done mate, it's amazing how much work you can do in a week.
Remind me, how many years ago did we weld it?
Thanks Tom, it sure has come on alot this week, really happy about it too :)
Just had a quick look back in the thread & it was three & a half years ago!!! That's crazy lol oh well good things come to those who wait I suppose :) getting there now though. Thanks for the advice earlier too. Much appreciated.
awesome build mate well done
Glad its running dude. Loving the vid, is always a worry when you see that smoke coming off till you remember what it is.
