So, i spoke to a friend who works in a body shop and he kindly accepted to take on my wheels to change the colour of them. As it was a foreigner he could prep them at his then just take them into work and spray them.
He got right to it, sanding back the red and improving upon my the centre caps i had previously smoothed.

I got him to show me some grey colour chips but my previous choice of the BMW sparkling graphite still shouted out to me.

In the sun the rainbow sparkle pops.

Whilst having the wheels off i decided to take off the front discs as they were very corroded from not being used, i cleaned them up using the razzer at work and sprayed them black to help keep the rust off for now.

New front lambda sensor, i had to extend the wiring as the plug wasnt long enough. The sensor i removed had alot longer length to it and couldnt have been a standard z-let sensor.

As i havnt changed the oil since the engine rebuild i bought 25litres of cheap 10/40 and a couple of filters. I've changed the oil now and will do again after mapping and so forth up until i use it for some track/drag event.

Magnetic sump plug bought too, for anybody that wants to know, its a m14 thread and cost a fiver. If you search for one specifically for a xe/let then there around 10quid.

Thanks for looking.
Nice work in you Nova, i have read the entire post, incredible restoration !!
Regards.
It's a really stunning example, good work
Looking really nice!
Looking great, love the wheel colour. Why did you not paint he inside of the wheel?
Ive always been a fan of dark wheels but yours look great against the blue with the little touch of red, caliper and cage.
Great work Bruce
This is nice. Like the colour scheme :thumb:
Looks great. Not tempted to do the lower part of the front bumper grey to match the rear and skirts?
Thank you.
Cheers, its no where near mint but it'll do for now.
:thumb:
When I bought and painted the wheels myself a couple years ago, I painted the inside black and the face red. Didn't see the point in painting the inside grey as its a dark colour already and wont really be seen.
I was tempted years ago to paint my softstars dark grey but as they were in such good condition I couldn't justify it. I loved the red wheels and would more than likely do another set red, but the calipers clashed with them, the grey does look awesome though.
Thanks, I think the red adds an extra dimension.
I was tempted once upon a time, mainly due to other comments about it, but I do like the look with out it grey. I've never set out to keep it completely original, just going with what I like the look of.
update (excuse the bad phone pics)
I managed to get a few days off a couple of weeks ago to do some more work to the nova, hopefully getting it somewhere near to bring to PVS.
I trailered it over to work so I could take advantage of the ramps and work shop facilities.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...pst16ngbz5.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psputbyriz.jpg
First of all I wanted to tackle the rear gearbox mount, as my gearbox already has one heli-coiled hole and one hole broken off (please see a few pages back for that fix), I wanted to strengthen it up some more as ive seen some f28's rip them selves apart from the torque.
I made a plate to bolt to the rear of the gearbox, then I tacked it onto the nova mount. I also tacked all the conversion spacers to the mount as this will save time on assembly any time I take it off.
I then removed the mount completely and welded it all together.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psynj5prsw.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psofvjedlz.jpg
Realistically I wanted to triangulate the red shaded portion, unfortunately I couldn't do this as my one mount bolt goes all the way through the casing and has a nut on the back side. I wouldn't be able to get a spanner on it If i was to cover it up.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...pskmpu65yr.jpg
After that was finished I started to make a new scuttle cover, my original from a few years ago was made from hard board and covered in faux leather. My boss had some plastic sheet left over as he makes his autograss arches out of this stuff.
Cut out the rough shape with tin snips and then covered it again with faux leather.

Next on the list was tracking, as I didn't want to scratch my cesaros I popped on some old wheels. Reppin the GTE steels. lol

The car is silly low at the moment and I wouldn't intend use it on track as it is, I adjusted the track to where it had to be. The other figures I'm taking with a pinch of salt and Ill try adjust those at a later date when I plan to use the car. The rears another story as I was hoping they would be some where near the same but the nearside has a degree of more camber. Yet again the rear is fairly low too, so the angles will change when its adjusted up.

http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...pscjvhclzn.jpg
A lot more items have been fettled with but I never took any photos, I gave the car a hell of clean ready for PVS. Clayed, polished, waxed, vacuumed etc etc.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psnaag3ql0.jpg
On the way home I took it to a local quarry and cheekily weighed it, it sure is a fat bxstard!
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...pshoz9mfat.jpg
Since then ive taken the engine and dash looms back out, a) to tidy/shorten them and b) to try solve my management problems.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psuktyxxwu.jpg
When I bought the management, its always had 2 fault codes stored for the front lambda heater circuit and the rear boost control solenoid.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psmz0iwxnw.jpg
I stripped some of the loom back and done a lot of continuity checks and I'm quite satisfied that no wires are broken, I had found that the one heater wire for the front lambda was actually on the rear lambda.(not running a rear lambda) A cut and resolder of both wires has hopefully solved that one.
Going back and forth to the wiring diagram shows the rear boost control solenoid wire goes into plug A (dash loom) pin 50. The dash loom plug doesn't even have a pin in no.50. I couldn't find any more wiring diagrams and the only info I could find about the rear bcs was on a corsa c forum. The Rear bcs isn't part of the engine loom on the z-let, for some strange reason its part of the start/charge loom. Although I had the one wire found on the engine loom (thanks to the corsa c page), I didn't know where it went, I continuity checked all pins on the ECU connector and it turns out its pin no.50 on this plug, plug B. Autodata sucks balls!!!!!
As per the corsa page, you take your rear bcs plug and 2 wires, wire the one to pin no.50 and the other to a black live wire from the ecu. As some may know, a mod on the z-let is to bypass the rear bcs but leave it plugged into avoid a fault code. Instead of buying the wiring and the solenoid I went to maplin and bought the correct resistor to solder inline to trick the ecu.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psprnfunx1.jpg
A common item on the z-let's are the AFM, MAP and coolant sensors earth playing up. 4 small earths connect together through a crimp and has been known to play up, as I had the loom out I couldn't just leave this due to it being a potential failure in the future.

Plans are to go do some more on the car tomorrow, so another update will up before PVS. :thumb:
Thanks for looking.
Bruce
Update.
The novas back up and running, the fault codes are now gone after my wiring mods. Only downside is that the engine sounds like it has piston slap. I think this is due to the fueling being mega rich, washing the bores and wearing them out. Looks like the motors got to come back out. :-(
Oh, that dont sound good.
update
It's been quite a period with out an update, not much to ramble on about except for attending a couple of shows which some of you had experienced your selves.
Pvs was the first show in 3 years that I've taken the nova too, with it being in pieces most of the time it was a great delight to show it off again. The weather wasn't the greatest and it did put a downer on the day as there wasn't any strip action, but enjoying people walking past and admiring the car felt awesome.

http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psgzlvbo3b.jpg
And then the 3 hour journey home, pxssing it down.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps6ojgfijt.jpg
The plans were to attend billing but the clutch in my Vectra had started to slip which put me out of the game towing the nova around, with retro rides lurking I had to fix it, so a LUK flywheel and clutch were ordered and fitted them the weekend before the show.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psngtfteuw.jpg
I hadn't touched the nova since PVS, a quick jump start and popped it on the trailer to take to work so I could clean it again.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psofbuoiir.jpg
Beeeaaaaadddddddssssssss yo! This is just from the PVS prep!

But, sunday was bright and gay, benn was loitering at the gates.

Update
Here’s an update on some of the parts I’ve been collecting for the winter rebuild.
A box full from AutoVaux including a VXR/Z20LEH oil pump and gasket, a new 8v sump gasket/baffle, z20let head gasket and various oil seals.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psny8fnczc.jpg
Have also bought some Omega 87mm pistons, a 13 row oil cooler, 875cc Deka injectors to replace my 630cc’s and a 90mm MAF housing.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...pseytexbcv.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psuph9i1yo.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps9po6nkdx.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psirkfwf1q.jpg
Only parts left to get before I can build it back up is the modified pick up pipe for the vxr oil pump, some new big and mains bearing shells and then a bigger turbo to the td05 I currently have.
I’m still awaiting to take my block and crank up to phillip for the rebore and crank regrind, I’ve had another non car related project on the go that’s taken funds away from this unfortunately.
I’ve been tinkering with an inlet manifold that I’ve been making over the past couple of months which will replace my standard item, hoping it should free up a few more HP along the way.
I started out with buying a steel flange and making various calculations and lists with items I needed to build my own inlet, I would love an aluminium item but with the cost of them being 3-4 times more than this tallied up, it was a no brainer. Plus if I want to add anything I can break out the mig and crack on, with out paying somebody else for the pleasure. OK, weight is an issue but meh.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psvolqlzly.jpg
The flange came with a pre drilled hole for the return from the head but it didn’t have the water way from the inlet to the head, after reading a few threads with custom inlets it was recommended to add the 2nd water way to the flange.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psvplxdxot.jpg
I sourced some 45mm stainless tube for the runners, which I then squeezed the one end to make it oval so it sat nicely on the flange.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps90ul9kcx.jpg
A small length of 18mm outer diameter with a 12mm inner was bought so I could make my own injector bungs. I couldn’t find any pre-made bungs in steel in this country and they weren’t exactly hard to make. The injectors are 14mm, ‘o’ rings were around 14.4mm, I found that roughly 13.75mm hole was needed to drill them out and for the injectors to sit in snugly.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...pssng1tc6w.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps7nqn8dqo.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psxqwu6t29.jpg
Evo billet fuel rail, these accept 11mm injectors, so again this had to be drilled out for the 14mm injectors.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...pshvhxlgr6.jpg
The bungs and runners were tacked down onto the flange with a trial fit of the plenum.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psd9cpylcg.jpg
Clamping the flange down to some good thick flat steel, I welded all the way around the runners. It may not be pretty, but I’m hoping it seals.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psxr5v21yw.jpg
Plenum also welded on.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psijtonfpk.jpg
Slot cut for the boost nipples that I tapped into a thick plate and then welded that to the plenum.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psrzydattv.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...pskclzovwt.jpg
End plate welded on, I did want a domed cap but I couldn’t find anything at the time.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psaajk91ew.jpg
Servo fitting drilled and tapped, added some half cut washers to the underside so I can tie up any wiring under the inlet.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psmjdtskid.jpg
Alternator mount tacked on and trial fitted on the engine, I’ve got a rose jointed adjuster for this now.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psg7y4rhho.jpg
Throttle body flange tacked on and trial fitted on the engine.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psk1negako.jpg
Fuel reg mount welded onto the backside.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psmu6iri8e.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psyirpyy76.jpg
Primed to stop any more rusting and fillered over the welds to make it look awesome.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...pskmupq4l6.jpg
After a lot of sanding and manipulating of the filler.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psaim7vf9k.jpg
3rd coat of paint, no laquer
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psqzbrhucq.jpg
All painted, reasonable reflection to it.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps06dywcpd.jpg
And completed, quite happy how its turned out considering it only cost around £140 to make including the rail.
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...psaeh3dkac.jpg
http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps44axlp9d.jpg
Hopefully a more productive up date to come soon.
Thanks for looking.
Nice work on the inlet looks great.
Lovely tidy welding. Whole thing looks great.
MMMM did someone say 500BHP? :o
Looks great, good effort.
Nick
what spacing are the injectors ports on the same as standard?
Inlet manifold looks awesome. I'm planning on making a steel inlet myself so it's a nice bit of inspiration.
Top work mate.
Thank you.
Cheers Benn.
Who said that? lol
Thanks a lot!
The evo rail uses the same injector spacing as the c-let.
Cheers, it may be heavier than alu but at least my wallets not been ripped apart.
I spy a pv feature car. Well done bud. Looking good[emoji106]

Love the fuel rail - where did you get it?
Some of you have already seen on facebook, but for those who havn't I have had the car featured in this months Performance Vauxhall. Whats also great is that they are my own photos as I do a bit of photography as a hobby, a couple of discrepancies in the story about it, but other wise I m thrilled. :d:d:d

Car is epic, and congratulations on the feature it's well deserved, any future plans for the car? Or just use and enjoy it?
Well done dude, very well deserved.
Well done! The photos look really good. I never knew it has 380bhp. What's your quarter mile time?
The engines still apart at the moment, so I should have an update with that in the new year. But, yeh, use it for some track days and actually have some fun driving it and not just showing it off at the shows.
Cheers benn
That is a discrepancy in the story as I mentioned, it was discussed the potential power once mapped and the turbo I currently have maxes out at 380hp. But I guess it wouldn't be an interesting read if he had to explain all of that in the feature. I am going to a bigger td05 maybe td06 unit for 2017.
My best and last time I run in 2013 was 13.3s at 110mph, the story in mag does convey that I have used it recently, he just happened to use the 2013 drag racing as part of the story etc.
Great photos of a stunning car, looks like you could make a career of photography if you wanted.
Nice photo's, I have not read it yet though.
When they did mine they made a load of mistakes, Some were hilarious.
