Iain's 20XE Trackday Nova

Well here's some pics of what I've been up to recently.

Got the right XE coolant pipe to suit the silicone hoses. For anyone fitting Roose XE silicone hose kit, THIS is the pipe you need (not the one that has one on the back and one on the side):

Finding a 28k Nova in the scrappy meant I got myself an almost-new header tank, I'm sure you'll all be pleased judging by the uproar from the dirty header tank pic lol

T-piece is a messy bodge IMO, not too keen on it, but it'll do for now:

Here's how I'm mounting the header tank as I boxed over the original screw hole. Cut down the tab and used a rivnut, pro job lol

Nova Ian sold me some dodgy goods (OK so they were free but still dodgy lol), fuel line was leaking and the gaffa tape wasn't up to the job of fixing it:

So whipped these bad boys out of an Ecotec at the scrappy and fitted some barbed 8mm joiners:

Extended to the right length, now has fuel clamps on the joiners too btw:

And joined to my 8mm ID plastic lines under the car:

On to the killswitch, earthed one side of the '1' using the supplied resistor:

And looped a +ve back to the other side of the '1'. Not going to bother with the '2' side I don't think, as this will currently immobilise the ECU and cut spark (I think?):

Next job was sort the wiper linkage, it was sitting too 'vertical' which meant the wiper sat at an angle and scraped the tabs on the side against the screen. Not good.

Smashed the linkage with a hammer (literally) to get it to sit a bit better:

Straight wiper arm and 18" GM blade:

Wiper arm is actually a Citroen ZX straight arm, shortened with a Nova end welded on:

Next up, redoing things I thought were sorted. I bought cheap balljoints and track rod ends from my local motor factors (£5 each or there abouts). Black and orange box, made by 'CD' I think, I will never buy these parts again!

Well the car hasn't moved an inch and look at the state of these boots! Bottom balljoint:

Holy sh!t batman! Spaghetti junction :) but +1 for soldering and heatshrinking, only way to do it imo..

Weird how them joint boots have rotted so badly! shows how cheep they are though..

As for the T section the only other way to make it neater is to get it as close to the rad outlet as possible and keep the jubilee clips turn underneath out of sight, but I'm afraid theres not many other ways to do it, as you need the feed to the inlet manifold, i don't think its wise to block it of like some do IMO.

But that aside mate, nice update and its coming on well now..

The t-piece isnt needed. Just block off the 8mm pipe from the inlet.

Good progress chap! Iirc jonlem posted a pic once of the water hose t'd into one of the heater matrix pipes. Looked a lot neater imo.

But surly mate if there was no need for the water system to flow through the inlet then GM would not of made it too, and the SBD inlet has it too, so i fitted it into it.

I know it's mental ain't it. They're the feeds for the starter, car loom, engine loom and a few aftermarket relays...

Sorry they're normal insulated crimp terminals but with heatshrink over the top :( (Except the battery and starter motor wires which are non-insulated but still crimped).

Meh its not the end of the world re. the t-piece, it's in now just think it could be neater.
