sorry for sending those pics of myself mate!
Just got back from picking the car up from the bodyshop! Its by no means a perfect paint job but more than good enough for what I want, especially for what I paid for the job! lol The front wheel arches where done in stone guard then sprayed white along with the bay and scuttle area. I asked him to mask up the front panel so it wasn't painted so it matches the rest of the car if I keep the skinny bumper on :p

As said on MIG mate looks good
Cheers, photo makes it look better! lol Was pleased to hear the bulkhead needed very little work to get it pukka which means my filler work wasn't too bad after all. Will look a let better once I get a few more bits in there.
Gearbox and engine are practically ready to be bolted together and in the car then it will start looking like a car again.
Looking well mate!
Whens this getting done then :DQuote:

Today's job was to work on the scuttle cover so got the MC, heater, wiper linkage & washer bolt into place...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3.../07-06-098.jpg
And then started trimming. I already had the main outline from the template of Shaun's but I had to trim in the bonnet hinge clearance and the tricky bit the holes for washer bottle and brake reservoir. Didn't get time to start on the washer bottle but have done the MC cap. Not 100% happy as yet tho. Its well positioned but is putting pressure on the reservoir and might cause leaks. I need to have a better look at it before I decide whether to leave as is or cut out the shape of the reservoir.

What do people think - do the cover white or satin black?
Dude it looks very nice!
Scuttle cover looks good. I need to re make mine.. Do yours black.
You might need to cut out the slight shaped part that's lower on the brake reservoir, as i noticed this is what twag will have to do on the one i made.
Also i think do it white mate.
Scott
White!
Looks good dude. Geeeet it finished!
Looking good !, Can't wait to see this done but its interesting seeing it coming together ;)
Best of luck !
white dude!! i love this car me its going to look fapping mint when finished!!
Nice one Simps, can't grumble at that paint job, looks fresh. Prefer the white stoneguard to my hammerited arches!
As for the scuttle cover, satin black all the way!!
Good work man
Cheers for the comments.
I'm leaning towards satin black purely because I want it powdercoated and it may be hard to get an exact match on the white. Got the same prob with the rocker & belt covers but with them not actually joing any panels I can get away with more.

On the corsa pedal reservoir you have the cap, well if it sticks up above the line of the bulk fire wall then you might need to cut out a bigger hole that's the shape of the top of the reservoir bottle, just slightly down from the cap mate, it's hard to explain! lolQuote:

Why power coat it? Just use normal paint.
I can make you a template Dan... Or make you one at a small cost.
Looks good mate.
You cant beat a freshly painted shel, nice work with the scuttle too :)
lookin great
Benn, id gladly pay you to make one mate!, think we could get it all done by billing or you to busy?Quote:

i'd rather powder coat it because I'm having loads of bits done anyway and get it fairly cheap and its very hard and durable and with something like that cover that will probably always be getting wipped on and off its needs to be durable.
Easy even tho i am busy.Quote:

hiya simps, got to say your car is looking mega cool, really coming along nicely. ive just noticed you have an f28 mount? are you using the 6 speed with the xe? or are you planning on fitting a let now?
also looking at the scuttle cover, personally id paint it white as it would kind of blend in nicely with the rest of the smooth engine bay.
anyway top work fella, keep it up.

I wanted to build a track car that looks rough on the outside (no point spending money there) but for very little I can make a nice job when I pop the bonnet. :D
Fair enough, I start thinking a bit extreme when I think track car lol All weight is bad weight :p Exception is mine as it's a daily, which means it needs to look nice too as I can't show off it's full capabilities on the road lol
Its ally sheet ;) And I have cut a hole and will do one more in it! lol
Been offered a porsche 924 today for free. Her ex partner bought it a few years back, drove it home and parked it up to do a resto on but they then broke up and he never came back for the car.
I'm mainly interested in the gearbox/diff & torque tube. Am I right in saying that as they are still on the car as sealed item they should be ok bar the obvious age wear & tear?
Most of the weekend was spent drunk followed by hanging out my **** but managed to get a few jobs done.
I painted up the thermostat housing and breather/dipstick in my favourite colour then fitted up to the engine. I then spent a very long time renewing all the exhaust studs and working the thread with wd40 and then decided to do the same with the mount bolts and the 2 on the shell for the gearbox mount.
I'm all ready now to fit the clutch & flywheel then bolt it up into place. I just need to order a couple of nova engine mounts and a thermostat housing gasket. I noticed one of my mounts was different I think its an astra one? (nova on right).

Looks good fella.
does that box have a diff fella ???
I have an astra mount here, thought it would be the same as a nova but sticks out slightly more.
