looking awesome mate, wish i had ur welding skills and a unit, im getting fed up of the driveway and so is my ma n pa!! lol
bet ur getting pi££ed off at everyone moaning about the weight etc.
keep it up i cant wait to see it completed!!!!!
Loving your work Ste. Know what you mean about working with limited tools/equipment. Makes planning things out ven more difficult.
Good work and great fab skills ste nice one carnt wait for the next update.:thumb:
Some nice fabrication work there, very nice mate
Its not folk moaning about stuff, its just that their asking questions about the way things have been done and the reasons he's done them, what seems obvious to one person might not be very obvious to another, its good to see a few answers on whats been done so far, i admit that a few questions might come across abit negative but i know i'd rather read a few questions and get some genuine answers rather than the usual posts by folk ... 'dis iz gonna be da best Nova eva' 'your da best welda eva' ect ... !! lolQuote:

I think you need to step away from the proplus and coffee mate lol
do you ever sleep?
I like the approach to the engine mount, rather that just holding the engine up it also stabilizes it ( my spelling is poor :( )
sleeps for normal people i just rest when my body say no more lolQuote:

theres one important thing about the build and its always the first thing and the last thing on my mind with every last bit of the build
ok that will do the job at 200 bhp and ocasional blasts
but will it be reliable again and again and again at 500 poneys and nothing but constant hammering.
If the anwser is no then it either gets done again or beefed up until im happy!
when this thing is dead and rotting i want what i have added to still be in one piece long after the original nova shell has rotted from under it!
mate of mine has hit the nail on the head realy
designed like a volvo built like a westfield and going to get driven like a nova!

looking good ste. are you plating the under side or just leaving the bar's showing if you get me
yea ok ste we get it, your a good welder, no need to keep showing off lol just kidding mate :), i love welding proper metal like that, looks great cant wait to see it finished, keep up the good work feller
Hi Steve
How are you getting on with the 4x4 nova, I have been building one for the last 10years from a nova sport I bout when I was a kid. Am finally getting paint on it this weekend. all the welding done finished shell blasted and primed,
I guess about another year and it should be good to go..
I am looking for some very early nova bumpers (sport type) for it, any ideas where i can get some??
looking good ste, some cracking work going on,will be one quality nova when done, keep up the good work, will be keeping a good eye on this
Get some pics up mate :)Quote:

Very impressive some fabrication skills gone into this will be good to see complete! :thumb:
i like how to the un trained eye it doesnt look overly different even though there is pretty much fack all left of the nova
Looks good Ste :)
Have you insomnia Ste lol As ever your works outstanding, love it but feel sorry for Claire as she must be lacking some loving lol
thats very true i even look at the pics and sometimes think i have just re created what i already had lol but 3 times stronger brand new and the way they should have done itQuote:

Looking at your pictures makes me embarassed about my frankentsein like welding skills. Top skills on display indeed.
how come you welded the plate on without making the hole for top mounts?
are you going to drill it while its on the car?
3 reasonsQuote:

b) if the turet is a few mm out bent ect over the 20 od years its had abuse and hammer and i make it the same way i did the other side when i fit it it will be wrong again
c) i have had a complete change of plan in the way in which my top mounts are going to be mounted and they may require completly different shape holes and mounting points so if i leave that one for now i have only got one side i have got to try and change to suit

these actualy
tbh for what that is, I'd get some plates of varying geometry made up by an engineering place etc. I have an issue with any adjustment made like that, in it's possible to slip, which although fixable with serrations is always a risk regardless. The worst aspect imo, is you will never set that exactly correct on both sides down to 0.x of a mm like you can with a plate you KNOW is of the correct dimensions and tolerance.
Thats the whole point of using top mounts of 360 degree alignment mateQuote:

thank you very much
it doesnt matter if one side needs to be at max adjustment one way while the other is near central to make it run and drive straight and true
thing you forget mate is were not talking about a brand new shell built from tollerences of a few tho of a mill were talking about a 20 year old shell thats had 3 diferent engines been hammered to hell bounced of kerbs rotted and had various repairs
its ok having precision made plates that are fixed position and alow no adjustment but if there welded into the legs in exact symetrical positions and you take it up the road and find that over time the legs have moved theres nothing you can do
i have taken every care and measurement i can to ensure the legs are exact but as i found when i measured up before i started the passenger leg was already out from where it should have been by 8mm! and thats alot in terms of degrees in geometry at the wheels
Ste,
Just finished reading the whole thread, really interesting even though I haven't the foggiest about most of the stuff.
Are you going to have the front end as a one piece mould?
How many hours are you up to now on the clock?
Is there somewhere I can put my name down for a passenger ride?
What is so special about the Qrew transfer box - I remember something about it from a couple of years a go but can't find the link.
Epic :thumb:
Thanks for showing interest mate in fact that applys to everyone else aswell its the interest from you guys that keeps me on track and adament that im going to finish itQuote:

Reason beeing is because i have all these ideas and when i get there somethings not exactly how i planed it so things change all the time for one reason or another so rather than build everyone up for no reason would rather reveal it all as and when its happened
Hours wise to be honest not as long as you think i would estimate about 150 hours not much more than that. when i have a day on it i only usualy get about 6 hours on it so thats about 25 days at 6 hours
obviously its not always 6 hours sometimes 2 other days 8 but average about 6 hours mate
passenger rides are 15 pounds up front now and non returnable in the even of non completion or death in testing stages lol
qrew boxes are complicated mate best way of putting it is the weakest parts are replaced with stronger items which make the boxs alot stronger more reliable and biase more power to the rear
more power to the rear? thats gonna be interesting to watch with your 'unique' driving style lol top work mate, cant wait to see this finishedQuote:

ste i think you misunderstand mark, or maybe not and ive come up with another idea lol.
i understand he meant that you can have a number of different plates made up which give you certain different geometry set ups. say you want different camber you just bolt in a different plate.
ultimately a lush solution, alot of work involved though
Wouldn't that be alot of hasle? when you Want to change geometre you'd have to work out which plate to use etc. Doesn't an adjustable top mount let you change camber and geometre without changing anything, you just re adjust to where ever suits?
I'm probable wrong as still learning :)
