Look do look like art work...
Hello,
Didnt have long tonight in the garage as its my Nieces birthday but found a spare hour as i wanted to get the wheel back on ready to turn it around.
Didnt go totally to plan as i was putting new bottom ball joints on & couldnt get the buggers to go in so maybe wasted half hour pushing & shoving that!
Anyway its together but i dont have a allen key to fit the bolts supplied, there either 9mm or imperial so there just finger tight for the moment but temperarily together.

Back on its wheels anyway, so will get the allen key needed & pop back Wednesday night to do them up & turn the car around ready for the next side :)
What was the issue with the ball joint Martin ?
Bolts should be 3/8 Allen key iirc. I'll check in the morning for you though
3/8? I can hear the Queen crying..... lol
Just a new bottom ball joint i suppose & didnt want to drop into the hub for some reason, went in in the end once i had it at the correct angle.
If you can see what Allen Key i need i can pop & pick one up tomorrow, brought a bolt with me so no worries if you cant find out.
I'm 99% sure that's what they are mate, I have a box of the bolts here do will check first thing and text you.
They ARE 3/8 mate ;)
Lol. You can imagine the fun I'm having trying to work out all the bolts on the pug, it's a minefield of odd sized bolts !
Replace them all lol ^
That's what Im doing but still need to know what they all are first lol
I can't go back to metric either.
After my issues of the engine never reaching operating temperature of around 90degrees i decided to investigate & found this:

Thermostat stuck slightly open so replaced that with new & took it for a spin. Much better on the temperature, sat at around 80degrees.
Came back & now found this:

Damn CV boot split & covered driverside wheel in all its gunge!
So Saturday morning having never replaced a CV boot before i set about the job.

Surprised how easy the job was.
The Mrs then came round & parked on the drive infront of the Nova & asked "do you realise youve jacked the car up into the garage door?"
Bugger, lifted the car & as it tipped i was closer to garage door than i thought.
I how have a crease smack in the middle of the wing & marks in the paint :(
Surprised with how i wasnt really bothered.
I think this may have now pushed me to rip it to bits again sooner rather than later. I was going to wait until i sold my house & moved but now iam thinking when it comes off the road in October to just crack into it. :)
Ever since the engine went back in i've been meaning to get it onto the rollers as advised by John Toovey who mapped it on the dyno as the the map will need a tweak once installed.
As iam off this week i've booked it into 'Mikeanics' in Congleton tomorrow afternoon for a rolling road map tweak session so fingers crossed all goes well tomorrow afternoon.
Will let you know how we get on with it.
Oh sh$t dude! Thats not good. Good work doing the cv joint tho
Bad times :-( I would use it loads and loads this summer before the rebuild!
You've got to use it thats what you built it for surely lol Sucks on the wing but it can be sorted.
I wanna say use it for the summer, list everything your not happy with then go nuts over winter.
Nice to see the car in the flesh mate n nice to meet you. Stunning car!!
One of my all time favourite novas!
Get it driven Martin.
I work just up from the rolling road he has been to today. I heard the noise coming down the road looked out of the window and thought straight away, I know that car! Then managed to get out of work for 10 minutes to have a look around it. Absoloutle cracking car.
Martin, get that body work sorted, use it at least once a week and get ti to the shows/events and do a few track day's, or els you'll end up doing as i did, and get to point where you think, why am i keeping this!...
Right the Nova has been to 'Mikeaniks' today at Congleton for a couple of hours on the rollers for a mapping session.
Bit gutted that Mike wont have people watching him work, was looking forward to some video and pics of it on the rollers. Never mind as i know what its like with somebody watching over your shoulder.
Here are the results before & after.

Apparently a couple of lucky moments!
One the throttle stuck wide open. Where i had coiled the excess throttle cable it got cought jamming throttle wide - Now cut off.
He went to balance the boddies so unclipped the filter to find a trumpet had come loose & one of the screws was floating about - If that would have been sucked down the throttle body :(
Drives now much nicer & much better on fuel as it was overfueling quite abit.
Its about 95/98% there but to get it spot on would mean messing with the verniers & that would need a day on the rollers & not just the couple of hours. Maybe next time :)
Thought i would have been over the 200bhp barrier but never mind.
Interesting drive back down M6, sat in 3mile traffic jam for 45mins watching all the temperatures on the Stack!! Never sat in traffic in it before but iam glad to say she behaved faultlesly.
Nice results.
Good to hear you found the cv joint swap easy enough.
cant belive you jacked it up into the garage door!!! good dyno results mate but its crying out for turbo power, what does it fel like with the new tie bar setup?
I couldnt believe it either Matthew, what a muppet eh.
As for turbo power, the pennies wont stretch to it mate :(
So far the tiebars are feeling good. Tracking has been done but needs a full setup to get the advantage but so far so good.
I was disapointed with the dyno results to be honest, i was expecting over 200bhp but it feels good and drives nice so never mind what a print out says.
What cams are you using matey? I would have thought it would have sailed past 200 with a decent set of cams and dialled in properly etc?
Like you said though, as long as she feels nice and drives good - thats the main thing!
Rolling roads aren't always accurate
Id expect to see Around 200 though, that's what ollys made and that was a stock engine with cams,tb's and a 4 branch, either way it should be fruity enough and reliable ( extremely reliable if it stays in the garage lol )
I like the fact you sat in traffic with no probs...
to turbo or not to turbo, thats the question
A turbo? Ooooooo
Please don't spoil this car Martin by engine boost lol
Hi martin i love this car sooooo much i a have read this thread all over again ;) how are you and have youbeen up to much with the little beast ???
