Cheers Keith. Someone with taste!
Draper, yeah. Its on Alessio's. I was packing the slabs into the car to take to PV. They are being sold. I just wanted some pics of them on the car to remember them, so to speak. I like it but in a ghetto/track kinda way. I need the cash & would sooner have some other GM 15's in black.
its a real shame its not going to make it craig :( the funny thing is, i could mot it and bring up the pass sheet with me haha... not even need to see the car :D
I didnt know you had done so much on it Craig, looks awesome.
And totally agree about no point rushing it comment, will see you at Billing with it. :thumb:
Isn't that the kinda thing you should have PM'd me about Chris? LOL
I'm not really looking forward to PV now, like I should be... Ahwell. Billing should be any trouble in it now.
[edit] Thanks Andy. I made a big push over the last 2 weeks to try & make PV.
Shame you wont make it, but oh well.
I agree with the cav wheels comment, worst wheels ever.
There no good for track cars either, heavy, no ventilation to front brakes etc etc...
What beast are you driving to pv in then?
07 plate black Fiesta. Look out for me. :thumb:Quote:

Really pleased with it though, took a tour around the estate last night, weighting is perfect, parking is a doddle. All with 2.2 turns lock to lock.... nice!
I did have a mis-hap though, we connected the pipes wrongly to the rack & it had a fit, tried swapping them over & it was OK.

Pic doesnt show the reservoir held in place with cable ties... LOL.

I've sorted most of the issues for the MOT. I just need to get under it & put a longer bolt on the TCA.
I want to lower the fr another 20mm & get it tracked up. Minimal traction when booting it.
I've also had some new reg plates made up aswell, all fitted nicely & really clean up the look of the car. The old fr one was on it 9 years ago when I bought it.. LEX VOLVO READING!
New CTS will be picked up later as the emmissions failed the MOT & it does look/smell very rich. I just hope that sorts it & I dont need a Lambda.
 Where is the resevoir going to be mounted??
Halfway up the bonnet stay..........lol
Its gonna be temporarily tied to the PAS pipe behind the MC. Though I will in time make a bracket to screw it to the bulkhead.
I'm really chuffed its working tbh. It was the main thing I wanted to achieve with this resto (aside from rust abolition)
Looks really nice Craig, what about the welding on the rack? did they give any clues about getting round the problem for the MOT?
Think I'll wrap some 'spira-wrap' over it & try a somewhat 'friendlier' MOT test station. A mate that MOT's at a VW dealership said he'd likely just request an engineers report for them.
Any chance of a how to or something know you've got it working?Quote:

It appears not, needing a feed. I wanted to mount the reservoir straight into the inlet ontop the pump body, but I struggled to find a reservoir bottle with a low enough height, so used some longer pipe to locate it nearby & it seems fine. I've got a wee fluid leak from the base of that pipe where it meets the pump as the pipe is a tad big, but I'll wrap a couple turns of PTFE tape on it & try that. The pump has its own reservoir anyway, so I guess the piping & my reservoir just allow it to purge.Quote:

A guide isn't out of the question. Keep your eyes peeled.
I'm also trying to track down 2 micro jubilee clips (5mm width) I want them for my rack gaiter clips.
looks wickid craig , and good to meet you at PV if only for a few mins lol
That would be ace, I've always fancied power steering on the nova (even more so now I have to drive it lol), but figured it would be quite hard to put on.Quote:

would it not be easier using a elecy power steering collumn? no hoses ect aswell lol. craig ive seen some of the electric hydraulic P/S pumps have their resoviour which site literaly inches above the pump itself.
Yeah I was going to mount the reservoir above the pump, but space was tight & this way is no different tbh, other than the length of pipe holding that much more fluid.
I considered the EPAS setup, but tried the 'wet' setup for myself on another Nova & found a rally converted rack setup cheap, so went this route. It also meant I didnt need seperate quick rack.
I paid £38 for my rack (ebay), £20 pump (off a mate retail £200), £14 reservoir & £70 for the hoses. Pretty cheap IMO.
Sorry for the spam but difference between EPAS and Craigs system is?
A vid would be awesome Craig especially with 2 turns lock to lock.
As ghay as it sounds my biggest bug bear of PV was not catching up with you.
Glad you're nearly there, will have to pop down so I can be taken out for a test drive :D
:thumb:
Ahh I'm flattered mate. I'm a bit of an anti-climax in real life though.... lolQuote:

My PAS system is a typical hydraulic (wet) system. Pump, pipes, fluid & hydraulic ram (rack).
Get yourself to the PNG national weekend & I'll take you for a spin in the 'small block of goodness'!
Good to hear the steering system is working spot on.
Do you have the emissions printout from the mot? what exatly did it fail on? CO?
the main things i like with the epas collum is the fact you dont have to modify any racks or anything, just fit a quickrack at some point. the other thing is no doubt the epas system would be a little lighter (not by much tho) and the fact you can adjust the amount of assist you get. so for yor adevnturous driving i woudl turn the assist off and parking turn it to max assist.
each system prob has its own pros and cons tho..
hoe does the engine sound craig? used to love the sound of it on idle :D whats your thought on the engine so far compared to your previous 8v turbo's ect?
Your not at all Craig.. It was the highlight of my day meeting up with you... :pQuote:

EPAS or wet system... I had no preference. I saw Mark Beesons & liked it + I'd heard it was doable for years anyway. The rack came up cheap & I also found a pump cheaper than anyone has ever bought one for I expect...
The steering feel is nice, not light but ideal at slow speeds. Just what you'd expect from a GM rack tbh. I love the feel from a mk2 Astra GTE 16v system & its much the same tbh.
CK, the engine sounds pretty gorgeous tbh. Bit lumpy on tickover but it pulls like a train from low down. Its got minimal traction on my un-tracked car currently. The emmissions failed on fast idle, Needs a CTS I hope, at worst a Lambda.
Vids to come after weekend I expect.
Ha Ha!! You love it!! When you bringing the nova up for a drive out and to have a few beers again fella? Get the nova ready for a Ring trip in august... ;)Quote:

DAMN! I forgot I had this!
COME ON
UPDATE lol
Mot yet?
pics of it on the move ??
Nah. I just need to organise the MOT, but the rack arms are gonna be an issue what with the join/weld on them.
Can you cover the arms in say a nylon braid, like this, but bigger?
I've had an idea thinking of similar stuff Dan.
I'm going to enquire at a couple MOT places today, where I vaguely know the chap(s). I also know a man that might write me an engineers report for the rack arms.
if your worried at all why not buy a pair of new track rods and get them turned down on a lathe with a fresh new thread put on the end once shortened?
or maybe nova track rods will just fit the corsa rack? im sure the internals and rack casing are the same on novas/corsas
Funnily enough. I've just got back from enquiring about the above. Gonna drop some spare track rods in this afternoon for modding. They'll be sent away to be done.
Back on track :D
FTW
Tbh I'm getting really annoyed with the car.
If thse track rods take long I'll be missing Billing VBOA aswell as PVS. I'll have to punish it if I do.
Nuts and bolts in the oil filler? :(Quote:

Keep the faith! It shall be worthwhile in the end, you are near the light at the end of the tunnel, you have just had to stop and tie your laces lol
