Glad you're getting there.
So, in preparation for PVS, now that my wheels work again, I thought I'd have a little run out and get filled up with fuel, so into the Shell, for a bit of Optislaps.
I always use this garage, they all know me, it's halfway between me and Brands Hatch and I like the roads on the way. So I get out, open the boot, lift the nozzle and wait and wait and wait and wait. 4 minutes and 28 seconds go by, epoxy resin fanny is staring at me out the window shaking her head, being the calm rational guy I am, I proceeded inside and asked stainless steel pants what her boggle was.
She informs me that containers cannot be filled whilst still inside the car. I pointed out it's the fuel tank and it's fixed in, sloppy minge said if it doesn't come out then I can't fill up here.
This, as you can imagine, yanked my plank, I drove straight home, jumped in the Passat and smashed down to CBS, £220 later

So, start off by cutting down the 90 elbow to get it lower than my intended filler position
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...5DAFA56AAB.jpg
Check it looks right
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...49935B6338.jpg
Reasonable, next was the filler location, brief chat with Iain, this seemed logical,

Cut out and 5mm holes drilled ready to install

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...5C9C887C47.jpg
Looks alright, it was £60, lockable, I wasn't gonna pay £140 for the top of the range one, this one does the job
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...E311F41208.jpg
Hose cut to feed it, reasonably happy with it, tank might be moving soon anyway depends how I feel!!
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...BB52532E49.jpg
Looks like it might belong!!
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...D033125417.jpg
After all my attempts at finding something to float in my level tube, I suddenly thought........wood!!!!!!
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...F877068EF7.jpg
Hopefully my dash level sender is at my wife's work waiting for her tomorrow, don't think it'll be in before the weekend but i'll see, the tank is full now and CBA with emptying it!!!
Ordered a new FPR with some AN-6 fittings on it, something I've been meaning to do for about 12 months!!! Get rid of those bloody push on fittings
That's all for now
Don't fuel eat silicone hoses
CBS assure me these are fuel safe hoses, specifically for fuel fillers, the inside has a second rubber skin inside or something.

You can see it in the pics
Taken from the siteweb
STRAIGHT SILICONE FUEL FILLER HOSE.We've been asked for this for ages so, finally, here it is.
Fluorosilicone-lined and resistant to ALL fuels and oils.
nice to see you placed the fillerneck in this position, I was planning on mounting my fillerneck just like that !
don't really like the silicone hose, I got my self one of these:
http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/c...57mm-2-14.jpeg
do you have any kind of rollover safety in the de fuelcell? in case of an accident you want the fillerneck to block off so the fuel doesn't leak in to the drivers compartment
He has rollover protection in the form of not going over 40mph on track
I spoke with CBS about the rollover device, the filler neck is sealed so in the event of a rollover fuel shouldn't be able to get into the cabin, but I'm working on a solution.
I did look at the flexi hose and liked it but CBS could only supply it in 500mm lengths and were out of stock today!!! I would have paid double for the black silicone hose but they were also out of stock!!!
The blue will do, I'm trying to fit in with all the Arden Blue Astras at PVS!!!
Tidy job. Which FPR did you purchase? I only ask as I bagged myself a Fuelab 51502-1, proper nice piece of kit. Nothing wrong with push on fittings you posh git.
I think your clutch pedal has tweaked my calf you know....
Nice car tho, i enjoy it.
So few things have gone on here.
As previous posts explained wheel fall offage at Mallory, Housey not a happy boy, emergency hubs from Conor as we know, fitted so we could get to PVS, which we did.
As I was sick of people telling me the ratchet straps (that were a temp measure) holding the tank, were the most unsafe thing in the history of car building and I should flog myself with 9 cats or whatever people got whipped with in the olden days. I decided proper tank mounts were required.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...2E223CE651.jpg
Much happier and no comments from bellends at PVS!! I intended to remove the box and lower it as much as possible into the well but the chap that sent me the angle only sent 1 length instead of the 4 i ordered, so I've ordered more and once the tank is out of fuel I'll smash it on the proper angle mounts.
As you can see in this pic, rubber hoses for the FPR, I'd ordered an FPR with AN-6 fittings, decided to move it back up to the bay.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...3B95FDDC41.jpg
Crap pic for some reason!! Wheel well looks so much better with all the proper AN-6 lines
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...DC383731B6.jpg
This is so much more gooderer. Made some changes to the lines from the bulkhead too, much prefer how they look
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...DB47563037.jpg
Next up, it seems the one billet one plastic brake resoviour was the most hilarious thing the weed smokers at PVS had seen, got bored so banged the other one I had on
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...F3B3DA753A.jpg
Proper lines fitted from the M/c to the solid lines, so much happier with this now.

Onto today, left the house at 6am, quick 280 mile round trip to Norwich and back with the trailer to drop some parts at the office, stopped at B&Q to get some gravel, decided to neaten things up for the neighbours

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...DD3417A499.jpg
It's not technically my land so I wasn't wasting loads of money incase someone kicks off, but it looks better
With that done and the 24hr Le Mans on the laptop, got started on the car. HHMS machined hubs arrived, decided to get them to build them up with studs for me, studs are lovely!!!
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...C6446836E0.jpg
Got them on the car, lovely jubbly until...............
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...134ABD5246.jpg
Disc doesn't go over the shoulder on the stud, quick call to Hockly, "Same studs we use on all our Vauxhall applications" Hmmmmmm
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...E779C964D8.jpg
Stud shoulder, forgot to picture the disc hole but it was 13.3mm, luckily my mate in Norwich is an engineering gangstar, found me a 9/16 drill bit, which is 14.25. So.....
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...3C5CBE06FB.jpg
Disc adjusted. Then fitted, jobsagoodun, well it was until
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...C8A0088C5B.jpg
Wheel doesn't fit either!! Quick call to Iain to see what he thought, bosh, drilled the wheel out, all the work is done by the countersinking on the wheel against the nut so the hole in the middle isn't overly important aslong as it's not a wizards sleeve.
So there we go, all done.
Turned my hand to the dials which I've not been happy with as it kept bending, made this 3mm alu plate up, just brushed it over with the grinder to take the shine off, hoping it'll oxidize and dull up and then I'll lacquer it. Really happy with the little angle bracket mounts I've made to hold it, even if I do say so myself!!
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...3AAF3EE93E.jpg
Great build this, going to copy the filler pipe out the window I think :thumb: lol
I think you just enjoy winding people up as I honestly can't think of any other reason to fit just one billet brake fluid reservoir lol, though you really need to put some effort into checking fluid levels now!
I can't figure out why you didn't install the pedal box tight to the wheel arch to give a better position, but as I've said elsewhere different folks etc ;)
How much the the HH hubs work out in total? I need another set for my Purple LET - I assume you went for the big block flanges and big bearings?
Mr Tall, I've never really been bothered by the steering wheel position being offset, my aim has been to get the brake pedal below the middle of the steering column as it is, I can't be doing with moving the column, on this shell atleast. As for the pedal box location, this is an interesting one, I spent a long time discussing it with Iain, I tried to get it onto the bulkhead and it just didn't work, the pedals were wonky and the steering column would have been in the way of the brake pedal. That being said, since I've fitted mine I've seen the black euro nova that's being subaru'd and he has the pedal box hard on the bulkhead. So........ it'll be floor mounted for the new shell, get it done properly.
As for the resovoiurs, I had to fit the billet one as my pressure bleeder wasn't doing the business on the plastic one, needed to get to Mallory and ran out of time to fit the other one. I don't set out to intentionally wind people up with these things
Yeah went for the machined knuckles with the Audi 80 bearings, I wouldn't ever run a big block with the machined down hubs again, downright dangerous, I can't bleieve Elderkin actually helped me put them together, I reckon he did it on purpose to try and kill me cos he's scared I'm getting quicker round track!!
The whole lot came to £210, I supplied bearings, knuckles and the new hubs, they supplied studs and nuts and assembled them up.
Numbers if you're interested
Hubs :- Febi 0326194 £27.31 each from ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3317597225...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Bearings :- Febi 3620 £16.31 each from ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1910854998...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Today was a mixed day, didn't go to bed til 1.30am as the 24hr Le Mans was on, was up again at 6 to carry on watching. As the sun was shining we took the new dog down to the beach where he attempted to dig his way to freedom. I hate sand.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...5F3246B8_1.jpg
Anyway enough namby pampy pussy shite.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...C730A008D8.jpg
Gotta love coffee table working!!
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...D851C6FFAF.jpg
Wired up with plugs on for easy disconnect
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...DCAC248DEF.jpg
Plugs added to the dash loom, few crimps used that will be soldered in the near future as I wasn't sure on a couple of connections.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...102ECD99D5.jpg
Angle brackets added to the dash
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...D53E523DC6.jpg
All back together and working.
Also tried to work out a park feed for my wiper, but I think it's relay controlled and as I'm direct feeding the wiper motor I'll need to think about that one. Latching timer relay maybe.
How did you fit the GoPro mount on the roof? Just sticky pad or with some mechanical fun too?
Looked decent from a distance :)
As an apology I've booked us on to cadwell on the 8th so get prepping!
Love this build, gonna makes mine look shit lol, also the big block hubs are one for me I reckon, was so a pair advertised ages ago but found out they're normal ones today! Also had the exact same problem with the studs and discs, but I won't tell you how I got round it as it's probably frowned on lol
Mate, I wouldn't run anything else in the way of bearings and hubs now, had a very very lucky escape!!
Regarding the car as I said above to Bazza, there is so much I don't like, really pisses me off but it goes ok I guess!! It's not a show car, I think that's what annoys me about idiots at PVS, it's not a show spec car, it's there to be driven, yeah ok I'm not that fast but it's still a drivers car not a show car, people don't seem to get that function dictates form, the fuel system looks like that cos it works, the dash looks that way cos the switches are in the right places.
I do appreciate the comments from you guys, it seems you lot understand what it's trying to be.
Might have ranted on a bit there!!
Anyway, massive changes are a foot, hopefully it'll soon be a car that even I like!!!
Come on House, it needs a number on the door.
Got bored of seeing my stocks and shares plummet in value so got onto this.
Just a little update!!
Been away this week, had a few little bits waiting when I got home.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...7F4C65FBD3.jpg
Shiney shiney black things oh and a Vbox data logger.
Then onto this, always hated the way the breather comes out the cam cover. got the hose barbs out drilled and tapped the smaller hole to 8mm, little copper washer on there, bit of thread lock, JD.
Drilled the other hole out to 14.5, tapped the hole to 16x1.5 for the AN-8 fitting
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...3F28DDC51A.jpg
Fitting and hose sorted
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...ED57D341D7.jpg
Down to atmosphere for now the catch can is en-route.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...9B0EE31711.jpg
Working all weekend so suspension wont go on til after Cadwell now unless I can get it on Saturday and to a 4-wheel alignment place, we'll see how we get on!!
OOoooo very pretty arms! liking the areoquip/hoses.
Breathers look proper.
There is a place for wheel alignment in Colchester that will set up all your alignment for how you want the car to feel/handle or for what ever the car is designed for sich as track days etc... I can find the name of the company if it's of use...... and you pay me.
That one of jonlems kits? do you already have uniballs?
do like the breathers thou, going to be stealing some of these ideas
Best bet is to take it somewhere who can corner weight it and set the geo all in one hit. Mine was a pig until it was set up half right, still a lot to do but I do it myself.
